Close to the border of NSW is this great seafront cafe with table service . Although we had a long wait for our breakfast, when it finally came out was well worth the wait. If it hadn’t have taken so long would have given a score of 5. I had ordered the vegetarian breakfast & it was huge. All the produce on the plate was freshly cooked & tasted amazing. That zucchini fritter was the star though, with a crunchy coat & delicate soft interior. Scrambled eggs were made well & the tomatoe was super sweet as was the spinach. Coffee was also done well

Underneath Coollangatta’s own 5-star resort Nirvana, there is Cafe Ambiente. This has the vibe where you can simply waltz on in from the street and have a little something to eat and/or drink. The location of this place is very well done, with the state border not too far away, a lovely part of the ocean to swim in, and all the facilities needed within a good 5-10 minute walking distance. And that is the hotel I am talking about. Cafe Ambiente is a pleasant little meeting place at the southern end of the Gold Coast. There were a few hours left before I had to head back into town, mostly to help out with volunteer work at night. Before that happened, I went in here with my parents and had some lunch. This is a real up and coming place since they have settled in here, and it is no secret by now how much of an ardent foodie I am, and this was one of the first places to get off the list. By choice of design, this is a simple looking place. There is exposed brick on the back wall, and it goes a fair bit deep from the sidewalk. This helps to create a greater sense of shade, and with the views of the ocean it has a nice and cool thoroughfare for the breeze from the said ocean. The whole venue is spacious, and every seat is guaranteed to be in a good position – again with the views, you can’t really complain about it. While most of what I saw was in the cafe space, shaded and cool, there is still the lot of al fresco dining tables which can catch the rays of sun. When we get to the service, it is what is needed. They are friendly, and all of it is done efficiently. This time around, the service is done at the table and payments are at the end. It is more or less standard cafe fare that is presented here. First up, there is breakfast – and I think it is one that is all-day, as is the norm by now. Just expect a range of the usual offerings on the menu plus the token lot of one or two less common options, and all of them are for a-steal. Heading to lunch, again it is just a range of the usual fare. You have the sandwiches, the burgers, one or two salads for the health conscious plus it would not be the Gold Coast without at least a couple of seafood items. Going even more into cafe fare, such as olden days, is the snacks menu which is something quick, or something to share, or something if not a lot of money is on the table. Getting into the drinks, you are going to be spoiled for choice with here – there is tea, coffee, smoothies, milkshakes, frappes, drinks over ice, freshly squeezed juices, sodas, and beers on tap. So, as usual the first order of business in getting the coffee. They use beans from Elixr here. I keep on forgetting what I say about Elixr as a blend, and it is not quite an unusual one to find. From what I can remember, it does vary from time to time and it depends on the barista. Overall though, it finds itself just a bit above being a perpetual mid-carder and provides a hit of strength for those who prefer their coffee with that. That is the case with me, and the doppio I had was certainly one that had a good hit of caffeine to it. And in getting to food part of the meal, all three orders were for burgers – that is a coincidence. For me, it was a beek brisket burger. This was served on damper, and had coleslaw on it. Plus, by default there was a side of fries. After so many times of trying a burger in this vein, I will conclude that it need not have any tweaks as it absolutely comes together effectively. The coleslaw absorbs a lot of meat juices, plus has a sour, vinegary bite to compliment the succulent smoked meat that is alongside it. Plus, a rustic damper roll is a good touch – I will give some extra credit for that. The fries on the side were good as well, hot, a mixture of crispy shoestring and tender steak fries, plus they got a decent bit of seasoning, you always need the seasoning. While what I had was on the print menu, my parents both went for the lunch specials board (we are talking a couple of retirees, versus someone managing to have a job). One got one, one got the other but I can’t remember who got what. It will be reiterated again that this is a sharing family – so everyone got to try a bit regardless. The chosen burgers were pork belly, and an eggplant-haloumi burger. What was possibly the best was the pork belly burger, crisping up and somewhat caramalised plus it also had coleslaw on the burger as well. The bread roll was also good, and firm, plus it was light and fluffy, which was suitable to be used as a burger. Lastly, the vegetarian burger was nice. The haloumi was well cooked, so was the eggplant – slightly smoky, and creamy in texture – and what didn’t hurt was having a few garden salad items on it. This made it taste fresher. So, all three were burgers yet all three were different in their own way. Cafe Ambiente overall is a good enough cafe. It has more or less the usual suspects on the menu, and the from the bits that I had the fare is at quite a decent level of quality. It certainly won’t be winning any awards, nor might it be one on the hit list for any tourists to go here (perhaps though, regular tourists?), however it has its place sorted out very well. That is a good indication of what the 4.0 score – what I have given this place – can represent when boiled down to its basics. It has numerous makings of the reliable local, one you can just pop into at short notice, and most of the boxes are ticked off. Ultimately, it does well.

The steak hamburger and calamari we had there were just amazing. I didn’t know that calamari is so compatible with orange till then.Made my day really. The price is yummy too. Never thought that I can have such decent lunch over there . The latte and the Acai smoothie were on point as well. Thumb up!
