One of the best meals we have had in Townsville and kid friendly. It looks like a smoky bar and plain but honestly the night we went the food was fantastic! We had reef and beef and the rump and the kids had burger and Cheerios. The food was delicious and the kids play area was a bonus. We were very happy with our dining experience.
Disgraceful
The AV hotel greeting was dry and abrubt. I chose the surf and turf and my son ordered cheerios and chips. There was 4 cherios and 6 soggy chips on his plate. I requested medium rare steak and got a well done. The three prawns and three scallops were tender and sauce was tasty though that was its only strong point. My soggy chips and soggy salad that obviosly was made hours ago. I was recommended to come her by my sister who lives 300m away but I will stay away in future. It feels like I just spent $37 on three prawns and three scallops and $9 on cheerios.
Lost a patron! This place is a joke. The Av Tav has been my local for many years, but as a result of terrible service today has lost a patron (obviously not valued!).Went in for lunch last weekend with my partner, after ordering two crumbed schnitzels the orders came out incorrect. The waiter offered an apology and that was it, seeing as we were both starving we didn’t worry.Partner returned today for lunch, orders another crumbed schnitzel and gets an incorrect order AGAIN! All three diners orders were incorrect and after complaining, the staff could offer no apology or refund and basically told them to eat it or leave. My partner probably wouldn’t have complained if it wasn’t for his schnitzel coming out with spaghetti on top – and him being highly allergic to onion. After making a fuss about the situation, the staff even called security in who told them that they were no longer welcome here.This place is a joke. Staff are useless. Head on down for a feed if you don’t mind that they’ll come out with something completely different, refuse to give you a refund and thank you by asking you to leave. A lot to be answered for!!
Sticky date pudding was to die for. 500gm steak was cooked exactly like I asked, and nice and tender. Stuffed potato skins for entree was only ok, beef spring rolls were very nice. I will let everyone know what it is like, I am booked in on Saturday.02 Apr, 2012After 4 phone calls to organize a menu to be emailed ( my son has autism, and it helps him if he knows what he is getting before we get there ) we are still waiting. I am now guessing that they don’t cater to the needs of the disabled. The service provided by the people on the phone, which included 2 different managers, was very lackluster and without enthusiasm.
Apple Review. I enjoy the AV Hotel it has the best floor plan design in Hotels that I’ve been too and I am well travelled. The Hotel has Individual rooms for Dining, Gambling and Wooing. I enjoy the way the light is used in the individual rooms. The alternation between natural and artificial light as you walk through the Hotel creates a relaxing atmosphere and separates the areas. Air quality and Plants also make it an enjoyable Hotel to visit with a part for alfresco dining. I find Townsville is too humid and air-conditioning is a must however on cooler nights you like getting under those stars. The comfortable chairs make you stay that little bit longer and enjoy that Keno game and my poky win was a plus. I enjoyed a budget meal menu from the Sports Bar and it was excellent last week. Barramundi Burger and Beer Battered chips for $12.50 Lastly, congratulations to the quality staff who all go out of their way to accommodate me with my request for service. Thankyou for an enjoyable evening
Talked into giving this giving place another go. For a Tuesday this place was getting slammed! All orders of food & drink are taken at the bar, with time filled by patrons watching one of three sports channels. Out of a group of 7, 3 ordered the ‘AV steakburger’ which according to the menu is the best in Townsville. Now not trying any other steakburgers in town I can’t compare but it was the worst steakburger I have had. 1 other diner was unable to finish & the 3rd diners verdicts was so so. Fish & chip by 2 diners received an ok & 2 ordered the rump with the same shrug of it was so so. The attraction here seems to be the kids room which has a camera monitor. The local in the group promises that previous visits were better in regards to the food quality so jury is out.
