We used to love this place over the years. Haven’t been for maybe a decade. We decided we’d treat ourselves for a birthday lunch. What a disappointment. The steak was tender but completely flavorless and unseasoned. No chargrilled taste. It was bland. The mushroom sauce was artificially thickened and gluggy. Very poor quality. No imagination. Coleslaw was soggy with no flavour too. Won’t be back.
Have been to Cav’s a few times on various occasions and the food has always been good. Looking forward to the exciting renovations coming up so yes some people may say it’s dated but I personally go to a restaurant for the food, service and memories so that doesn’t bother me. Love the Duck spring rolls and had the ribs, always a favourite. I was stuffed but had to give the apple pie a go, so glad I did and will be back.

Y’know, I really wanted to like this place. We craved steak, we travelled, there was a sense of history about the place and we were greeted by lovely staff upon arrivals.Unfortunately, the compliments end here. I’m not one for slamming a restaurant, but I feel like helpful feedback might be a benefit to their owners/management. 1. Fitout was terribly outdated2. They seat you and advise they have table service for drinks only, but then you walk up to a side bar displaying alll their steak cuts to order your food and quote your table number (that’s ok at a RSL where you’re not paying a lot of money).3. Steak was undercooked, and in general the quality of the cut felt like supermarket quality 4. Coleslaw was very dry and tasteless5. Mushroom sauce gluggy and barely warm6. Vegetables (mainly greens) hard & undercooked.I haven’t felt this disappointed leaving a restaurant in some time, which is a real shame. Time to lift your game, Cavs – all is not lost yet.
