My partner and I decided to dine at Shuck, after strolling past the myriad of stores along Tedder Avenue. I must say that we were utterly disappointed in the experience, especially for the price paid.We shared an entree of garlic bread and 6-pacific bay oysters. The garlic bread was nice, with a wood fired taste and a strong garlic hit. Oysters were good, very fresh and tasty, as you’d expect from a place called “Shuck”.The disappointment came with our mains. After a long wait (around 50 minutes), our meals were served. I ordered the rib eye, cooked medium, with assorted fresh vegetables and red wine jus. The first steak to arrive was cooked blue-rare, so I sent it back and 20 minutes later a new one arrived. Thankfully it was cooked as I had ordered, however the spice rub was very overpowering and peppery. The vegetables were cooked well, rather simply I might add, and a small potato croquet was a nice addition. My partner ordered the peeking duck salad, which was more of a sliced Wombok salad with some shaved duck on top. The small pancakes you’d expect with peeking duck were replaced by wafer thin crackers, which didn’t seem to go. The dressing was quite bland as was the duck itself. A good attempt at a reinvention of the famed peeking duck, but not one I would recommend trying. We decided not to order dessert, due to the disappointment of our mains. I would probably not visit again, due to the vast number of options in the Main Beach, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach areas.

This place is worth a visit for the garlic prawns alone. They are superb. Chips a must have side to soak up the flavors once the prawns are all gone. Great service and excellent value bottle of wine recommended by staff was perfect compliment to the food.

We dropped into this place after a couple of local recommendations. Unfortunately it did not live up to the recommendations or the prices they charge. The house bread ( 4 large pieces of regular white bread) is served with a 5 cent piece size of truffle butter and a 50 cent size of sea foam. Careful rationing allowed us to get a bit of spread on each piece of bread. Just average and proportion of spread to bread was ridiculous. What we noticed about the menu was the distinct lack of Queensland seafood. Just the prawns I think were from Queensland, everything else from interstate. My swordfish was over cooked and dry and the Boston beans it came with were undercooked. My partners crab lasagne was in a beautiful sauce biut the fish was spoilt by a complete lack of texture and a stodgy lasagne.I would give it a miss.

The food was amazing and the service was excellent. The ambiance was great, dimmed lights in the evening for that added romantic effect. This has to be my favorite restaurant at the Gold Coast thus far.
