The restaurant is quite small so we seated outside. I had the jigoku ramen, which is supposed to be spicy. I wouldn’t say it came off as very spicy as to what I had thought. There was a strong after taste coming from my ramen as compared to what my boyfriend had. He had the Tenjin ramen. The broth didn’t come off as strong with pork and I would enjoy his more. The gyoza were simple and nice. Overall price was cheap and food was enjoyable
TL;DR: Tenjin is one of the best deal ramen places on the Gold Coast.Context:Was actually looking for JFX Nexus Southport (which was closed), and found myself near Tenjin, so went there instead. The time was around 2:45pm on Saturday, there were around 2 tables who already received their food. I ordered a Charsiu ramen (the original ramen with extra pork slices). With no other orders waiting before mine, I got my ramen within 2 minutes, making it one of the fastest places.Ramen:The noodle used here is thin
Use to go here weekly for 10 months, they recently changed owners in late August 2019, and I have to say, don’t change what’s already good. Apart from the disappointment of the chef being on break at 1pm everyday which seems shockingly odd to me since they open at 11:30am and are located underneath 100s of office buildings, the food has dropped significantly in quality and taste I used to love the Spicy Miso Raman, was the perfect mixture of spicy/sweet. The noodles were perfect thickness and it was simple a perfect lunch. It’s almost like the new owners have gone the cheaper option with the food now. The noodles are almost like they are from 2 minute noodle packets and the pork is a dark brown that doesn’t taste like pork at all, the broth of the Raman use to fill the bowl and be piping hot when served, now its quarter full and Luke warm. The gyoza use to be a high quality or hand made in shop either way absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection, now it’s clearly the frozen cheapest option they can buy wit it being over cooked every time. The new staff hardly know what’s on the menu when you order, and you’re left explaining what you want 3x over. I really did give the new owners a chance to step up to the original expectations of the original Raman which was known for being the best on the Gold Coast, but I’m left unsatisfied and bored with this place now. Hopefully they soon realise that there was no need to change anything in the first place and it goes back to the way things were. Sincerely a disappointed Raman lover.
We came here for lunch on a Friday. We ordered the teriyaki salmon don, a spicy miso ramen and the gyoza. All were very tasty. Some of the best ramen I have had. We will be back.
Good ramen (the black was a little salty for my liking, but the spicy was on point). Good gyoza. Good price. Love the sesame seed grinder, but watch out as the lid fell off and my dining companion got truckloads of sesame in his soup. Luckily, se same didn’t happen to me.
