Best nachos and mango smoothie ever!! Really nice curry, momos and earl grey tea! Great service! We loved it!!! Also great toys for kids and room for them to run around. Worth the drive to Maleny!
From shivering to sunshine: the backyard of this laneway cafe is a mellow place to enjoy a Nepalese infusion brekkie. None of that trending hipster crap here; think more family-run hinterland charm.Couldn’t resist some traditional fare – first the Sherpa bread: potato & flour roti, topped with fried egg & melted cheese, served with house relish & coriander paneer sauce. Next the momos: 10 Tibetan steamed dumplings (opted for chicken) with a complimenting Nepalese dipping sauce. Interesting brekkie dishes that both proved rustic & tasty. There’s also your usual menu culprits – the pancakes, big brekkie, bacon & eggs and eggs bene all piled up at our table of cohorts. I’m undecided whether the hollandaise came from a bottle but didn’t really care. These were well made, homely dishes with eggs that tasted farm fresh. Some of the best poached eggs of recent times. We marvelled at the simple wholesome value so much that the odd niggle shat us not a jot.The small team are lovely & hard working. The offer of blankets was a nice touch. Our departure reinstated the peaceful calm to a local who’d been reading her book in the dog-friendly garden setting for an aeon. Epitomising all that’s good about Maleny.
Hidden Gem in the GardenTucked away in the Maleny Laneway is the Sherpa Kitchen. Were the last to order for the day and had a bit of a wait. Fortunately, we were not in a hurry and enjoyed our time in the Garden at the bottom of the laneway. We ordered Dahl Baht Set and Sherpa Stew. The Sherpa Stew is nicely spicy (if you like spice) and the set was a nice collection of items that worked together well. The shady Garden at the bottom of the laneway is home to a collection (Lounge) of Water Dragons keen to see what you and doing and hunting for the odd fallen crumb. The stew was delivered in a heavy copper dish that kept the food warm for the entire meal.
