My favourite place during this visit at Gold Coast, fantastic place, little hidden, the food were amazing, very interesting menu, the looks and the taste were very on point, also have great collection of sake and Japanese whiskey, knowledgeable staff and great service.
Either the overall score is inflated, or I’m missing something.Pros: Service, groovy setting, cocktails.Cons: Basic food poorly executed.I am not a fan of venues with the attitude that they’re too cool to display their name. If it weren’t for researching online first, I wouldn’t have taken much notice of the red lantern, nor the sliding door hiding Etsu. The restaurant is clearly doing well with word of mouth and repeat locals, but I would have thought that in such a tourist heavy city anyone in hospitality would encourage walk-ins.There were inconsistencies with the batter on my vegetables (light) and zucchini flowers (heavy and dry). I found the kingfish was cut thicker than the norm and had not been cured for long.I’m hoping it was just a matter of poor food choices or an off night for the chef, because I’d like to return with a group to sample more drinks along with their larger plates.
