Okay Malaysian food for the Gold Coast. Singapore noodles, roast pork + noodles (soup), seafood curry laksa were average. Hainanese chicken is served without rice which is a bit unusual for Australian restaurants. The chicken serve is large and easily shared between 3. A chicken rice serve is also quite large and could be split between 2.Restaurant itself was a let down as it is very small therefore crowded and loud. The staff don’t speak much English and it is also hard to communicate when it is so loud. One waiter kept yelling ‘excuse me’ at every customer which came across as rude although he didn’t intend it.
I had thought the high percentage of likes would indicate good Malaysian food. The curry laksa was not authentic. They used a typical chicken curry with stock as the base soup. And the char koay teow was utterly disappointing with no flavour to it at all (looks good tho). When I told them about it, the floor staff was apologetic but I did receive the noodle back in less than 5 mins. I suspect the cook just cooked the same noodle with more seasoning rather than making a new one. I guess there’s still no good Malaysian Singaporean place in Gold Coast
It takes a second visit for us to conquer the restaurant’s ‘pièce de resistance’! It’s Hainanese Chicken, cooked to melt-in-your-mouth perfection, in a soy sauce with ginger and shallot and chilli sauce accompaniments. It’s arguably Thomas’ bestselling dish.
The hainanese chicken was delicious. The noodle dishes were also authentic. Will come back anytime for the wonderful food and service.
DE-LI-CI-OUS. This little Gem, found in Mermaid Beach, is the best Malaysian on the Gold Coast! The Hainanese Chicken is quite simply the best, and when had with the Fish Cakes, Malaysian Fish Curry, and Beef & Vegetables, you can’t go wrong. You obviously don’t come to a restaurant like this for five star service and décor, but the waiters are friendly, and quite attentive. The interior is a little dated, but it does not matter because the food is so good!I would recommend this to anyone, and it is the best value for money on the Gold Coast!YUMMM!!!
