I’ve been to UQ for a decade, and never once tried the Miss India near there. I went to the India Fest last night, but already planned to have dinner elsewhere, so I thought I should get my fill today at the Morningside branch. This is my first time at this franchise, and I was surprised at the fast food setup, with the casual seating and streamlined ordering. I ordered the taste-a-rama plate (dine-in only), and appreciated its availability: Most Indian places want you to choose one curry – the TAR allows one to sample 3 curries, which appeals to my degustation tendency. The flavours are pop-style optimised for mainstream taste, which suits my palate, but may deter those looking for authentic cuisine. If you’re after some fast Indian with flexible mixing-and-matching meal deals, check Miss India out.
I’ve been a long term customer at various Miss India restaurants but unfortunately I have been motivated to leave this review given my recent experience at the Morningside store. As usual I arrived at the store and was welcomed by the staff as I entered the clean and well presented shop front. I ordered an extra large butter chicken, lamb rogan josh and a couple of nan breads which came to roughly $65.00. Once I got home and my wife I started our meal we soon discovered that the meat in our butter chicken and lamb rogan josh was extremely poor quality being full of fat, gristle and even a small bone in the chicken. We barely touched either of the curries once we had picked through it looking for edible cuts. At the risk of over exaggerating I am just doing what I can to ensure people don’t make the same mistake I did, I may as well just went and thrown my $50.00 in the street. Hopefully it’s the last time my dogs get a $50.00 meal!
Mediocre Indian food, about food-court quality but very good value for money. Basically if you want a cheap takeaway this is a good place to go to; if you want authentic Indian food though, this may not be what you’re looking for.
