Great atmosphere, lovely decor and style but the food was below average. I ordered a breakfast waffle and tried the bacon and egg spring rolls, they were both very oily and gluggy; which left me feeling sick afterwards. The pricing was ridiculous for some of the menu items. The coffee was great on the other hand.

Just had a delicious breakfast and coffee. I normally have 1 sugar with my coffee but my coffee was so delicious I didn’t even add a sugar. Salmon omelette was beautiful and my husband’s eggs benedict had perfectly poached eggs with plenty of yummy hollandaise
The cats meow has that WOW factor. I had breakfast with a friend recently and just loved everything about this new cafe. the coffee was great, food delicious, ambience was just amazing, with so many little treasures everywhere.Rose
Quality local produce and interesting menu. After being taken here by a friend who in turn had been taken here by his mother, I have had the pleasure of visiting this kitsch gem twice now, have recommended it to some ten others and will return again. Hidden away in one of the old shopping arcades on Charters Towers Road, this cafe, deli and purveyor of strange odds and ends is serving some of the most interesting breakfasts I have seen in some time. On a menu that bravely had the listed special as crumbed brains was a range that included house made feta on toast with honey and locally sourced Backfatters bacon. Most recently, I ordered a full breakfast, while my girlfriend ordered mushroom and tomato bruschetta. My breakfast included both maple and regular bacon and chipolata, all provided by Backfatters and all delicious. In addition, the large serving board included eggs sunny side up, house made baked beans, sourdough toast, mushrooms and a most exquisite potato, herb and mozzarella hash that made my morning. A friend who went there on my recommendation, twice now, has said that it was busy to the point of staff advising a reservation, but also sang the praises of the food.
My husband makes better Egg-shell omelette. I ordered a baguette with pulled pork. The baguette came out with low quality bacon (mostly fat) and an omelette filled with egg-shells. There was no pulled pork in sight and the crunching of the egg shells against my teeth was unpleasant. The blended juice was made of diffrent ingredients to what I ordered and was not worth $7. Overall- not worth the price.
Very disappointing. My wife and I had been talking about checking out The Cats Meow for a while now and ended up there for breakfast Sunday just gone. Personally I found the entire decore kitsch and utterly disorganised but my wife was quite taken, so I guess that’s a matter of personal opinion. We were both however in agreement as to the overall quality of the fare. My wife ordered a mocha whilst I ordered an extra strong latte. Hers was decidedly average (ie, not even up McDonald’s standards) whilst the barista didn’t seem to understand that strong coffee doesn’t need to be burnt… For the food, my wife ordered the pikelets while I requested the avo on toast with two poached eggs. She found the pikelets to be somewhat lacking in flavour and fairly stingy in terms of portion size compared to other places we’ve eaten. In my case I was entirely dissatisfied. I was advised at the time of ordering that the toast would be sourdough, when what I got tasted like nothing more than plain white toast. The eggs were obviously handled by someone not correctly trained in how to poach an egg; and though distinctly free range sourced were quite stingy in terms of size and the amount of white lost through poor cooking technique. The onion tomato and avo accompaniments were barely seasoned apart from the odd mouthful of salt to break up the overall blandness of the meal.As an extra tip: if you are going to serve chilled tap water to your patrons, at least invest in a water filter… The only redeeming factor really was the friendliness of the floor staff we encountered, which is the only reason this places gets a two-star rating instead of one. As a whole we found the fare and the overall experience to be utterly disappointing… certainly not what it was cracked up to be.
