We went for afternoon tea and were very happy with our choice of tea and scones. The Buderim ginger scones were small but we happily shared a serve of two. The Earl Grey tea was lovely. The table was very small which made it difficult but we managed. Delicious and in a lovely environment by the marina.

Busy Crowded Place, Chocolate so-so. Chocol’Arte is a cozy, quaint little place full to the brim of interesting novelty items like tea kettles, mugs, books, tea towels, etc. making the shop feel crowded and cluttered. They serve coffee and chocolate pieces and I’m sure other things, but it was a bit overwhelming to take it all in. When it came to selecting some chocolate, unfortunately the names of the pieces didn’t accurately describe what the chocolates actually were and trying to get the attention of the owner behind the counter to explain things to us was difficult as she was in the middle of taking constant orders. It had been a Saturday afternoon when my partner, aunt and I went to look at a lot of the little shops and tents selling things in this area. Amongst the art shops my partner was able to spot a place that sold chocolate. Chocol’Atre to the Max had a few tables out the front and the smell of coffee was trickling out of the place.Entering the shop we were bombarded with lots of “stuff” to look at; trinkets, novelty items for the kitchen, trendy books with titles like “Chocolate is better than sex”, etc, things that might make cute gifts.Making our way to the back where the counter was, it was hard to tell who was in line, who was looking, who was ordering, so we just stood by the display and tried to figure out what chocolates we’d like to try.A lot of the names did not give a hint as to what the chocolates actually were, so we stuck to the ones we could figure out and when we did get the owner’s attention she was only able to tell us a couple of the questionable ones before quickly going back to serving someone else.In the end, we ended up getting 6 pieces which came to $11.80. The Pistachio Pyramid looked like a pyramid but did not taste like pistachio. It didn’t really taste a whole lot like anything. The Praline Log did taste like praline and had a nice creamy flavour.I had ordered the Latte but my aunt thought it had said “Chai Latte”. Well, need not worry what the flavour actually was as it didn’t taste like either.Nigel, one of those chocolates that did not tell you a thing about what was in it, apparently had salt with something else, but I forgot what the owner said. It was decent enough with a great amount of rock salt in it, but to this day, my partner and I cannot remember the other ingredient.Lastly was the Barrel of Rum. Finally a name and a flavour that was true to its word! The rum in the chocolate barrel was so strong it almost knocked my head off and as it so happened that I was eating this in the car, my aunt had to put the window down so she wouldn’t get intoxicated! Without a doubt, this was the best one, but you’d have to be a fan of alcohol to appreciate this! The chocolate itself wasn’t the best chocolate we’ve had either. I put it in the middle range: Above grocery store level, but below high end specialty shops.Overall Chocol’Arte to the Max is a neat place worth checking out. Great for when away on a vacation and need to find a place to have a coffee and browse. Just prepare yourself to be browsing for a long time!
