unsure how the confit crumbed lamb fits the modern-Australian-Chinese-fusion menu; quite challenging eating it with chopsticks and a porcelain spoon, dish was really fatty and unappetisingly “gamey”. the charred tuna was the most well balanced dish; soft shell crab was too oily (it being served with mayo and deep fried rice vermicelli as oppose to the nori noodles as written on the menu), enjoyed the crunchy kale in the pork cheeks dish but the marinate itself just had too much dark soy that killed the aromatics of the master jus. special fried rice was pretty meh, lacked that char flavour aka “wok hey”
More than lived up to expectations. 2nd visit for dinner, albeit a couple years apart, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Modern interpretation on some classic Chinese dishes. Tuna tatake, duck dumplings and Wagyu beef were all great.
What a disappointing experience. Perhaps the lack of Asian restaurants in the area and the interesting menu leads to the inflated reviews. Lamb dumplings were nice. Chicken ballotine was extremely bland rescued by a nice side salad. Prawns had an unpleasant taste, quite fishy, and the XO sauce lacked heat and punch, fried rice was gluggly and pepper steak really lacked flavour. The b word- bland- again. White chocolate sphere looked fantastic- see photo- but was full of sour raspberry coulis- most unpleasant. No children’s menu was a bit of a shock. Waitress suggested dumplings and fried rice which was, literally all the child would eat. I appreciate the attempt to do Asian in fine dining style. But this endeavour fails.
