Sassafras Canteen was our breakfast stop of choice after an Early morning in Brisbane, it was recommended to us by a friend. First impression gave a modern hipster vibe with the restored cottage, plenty of ambient light so very easy on the eyes when moving past the front counter and through the building, which led to an outdoor back garden area with abundant seating, all gardens and inside the cottage was very tidy/neat and amenities were quite sanitary. As soon as we were seated we were approached by an employee whom was quick to supply menus. While deciding on a meal from the broad menu we were then approached by the same employee with table water, as well as glasses with fruits and flavours of his own creation, which was very enjoyable. We were left with adequate time to decide on a meal before again, the same employee came to take our orders, ((I found it quite appealing to have the same waiter each time)). We ordered the eggs Benedict with bacon and the Field mushroom fettuccini, which were both delicious, the poached egg in both meals was perfectly cooked, along with the toasted bread and the fettuccini. During our meals we were given another table water yet not bothered with the age old question how are the meals while having our mouths full . After we had finished the same employee yet again swiftly removed our empty dishes, and then followed with asking about our meals. We then relaxed for a few minutes in the peaceful garden area, without being hurried to make room. Afterwards we were then greeted with friendly chit chat at the counter while waiting to pay our bill, and we were on our way. In conclusion, the service, the food, and the ambience, I give 5 stars.Side note: I believe the employees name was Callum, and recommend recognition for his efforts.Thankyou Sassafras The GermanEagle
Terrible. Buddha salad: kaleslaw, near raw beetroot cubes, bit of apple cubes, quinoa (dry), dry broadbeans, about 4 green leaves (spinach?) and NO dressing. I mean, this was at best a $2 plate for $16!! Music so loud we asked to turn it down or off (in the little middle room). Ordered coffee, they weren’t doing coffee (this was the lunch hour)! Had emergency breakfast a few weeks back because Cafe 107 across the road was closed. Avocado on bread, tiny piece of goat cheese, bit of dukkah for an astounding $17 but wait, then you want eggs (it’s on the breakfast menu) and another $4 for 2 eggs = $21!!! But hey, the salt and pepper is free!
Ive been here a few times and I just love it here. Their menu is so delicious I always have trouble choosing what I want to eat. They have really made an effort to incorporate a variety of different ingredients and create various pallet choices. Today was the first time we brought our puppies with us and I love how pet friendly this place is, we even were able to get puppacinos for the them. When places like this make the effort to do something like that it just makes it extra special and welcoming environment. I love the outdoor area the most because of all the plants and palms, making it feel that more like home. The staff are wonderful and super helpful. The place is always packed on weekends so be sure to make a booking. The best cafe in Paddington!
Excellent food and drinks, huge variety of both. I love that they turn into a trendy bar with music at night. The staff are super friendly and only too willing to assist in any way.
Slowest service ever. Had to ask for a refund and walk out because they stuffed up our order twice. There’s nothing else to say!
Went for a quick breaky. Decided on the Corn fritters. Unfortunately, Wet and Soggy. Gross. 🙁 Wont be back. Hopefully wont get sick from them.
Hadn’t been for about 18 months and was looking forward to yet another good experience. My husband had a burger, which he made quite clear should not have lettuce, but unfortunately did, however he said the burger was the best he’d had in a while. My corn fritters were overcooked and quite bland, however the coffee was great. There seemed to be a morale problem with the staff, which wasn’t there on my previous visits. Love the ambience of this place, so hope this is only a temporary hiccup.
