Getting reacquainted with Sassafras today seemed like a good idea & were glad we did: service backyard ambience brekkie value .Its a relaxed & homely place & so dog friendly theres even a separate pooch menu. (Cino is not amused.)Renowned for their ricotta hot cakes, Husbandio instead opted for the Canadian version. Cue mounds of crispy bacon, an entire banana & a river of organic maple syrup but the light, fluffy pancakes rightfully stole the show. He chose well. I went with the field mushrooms sauted with garlic & thyme butter, spinach, toasted pepitas, fettuccini, poached egg & chives. I hear what youre thinking there Judgey McJudgerson & yep I had breakfast pasta. Even added a side of haloumi. It was great. Every individual component shone. Talk about generosity on the plate: these meals were huge without being turgid & overblown. As were the (ahem) extra sides of polenta chips & beef sausage, which again were masterfully made. We literally didnt eat for the rest of the day.Niggles were the overly extracted coffee & that the lovely courtyard was a tad too rustic in places for us. Would return though, especially with the addition of the garden bar & its live music.
