Get the midweek special. Short but well chosen and obviously seasonal menu – and I would have been happy with anything on it. We’d just about decided when the charming waitress diffidently asked if we’d noticed the special – mid week one can choose 2 or 3 courses for a set price (otherwise a la carte) – and on that menu, one of the entrees was a tasting plate which we always like. This was a great example – a perfectly done creamy grilled oyster – I usually like them raw but that one could convert me. Generous serve of sashimi with wasabi and soy on the side, a larger-than-shot glass of their prawn bisque, an extraordinarily dense disc of terrine with a yummy drizzle of something, and salt fish balls which I had to surrender as I’d got my companion’s sushimi. in exchange for the sushimi.Fish of the day was gold banded snapper. Perfectly done slab on chats, and a scrumptious sauce. Another had chosen their signature beefcheek-braised-for-hours-in-wine-and-miso and would have argued for that as the best choice. The desserts kept up the standard to the extent that I would go back just for that. This restaurant is no longer BYO, something they politely make clear at the time of booking as it was previously byo only. Wines are a bit on the pricey side but not overpriced and there is something for everyone. Going back.
