Saw positive reviews for this little joint and decided to give it a go. Went there for Thursday lunch and ordered the pork egg katsu don, teriyaki chicken don & California roll to share. The katsu don was generous in serving size with the pork slightly over cooked. The entire disk was overly salty but at the same time lacks sauces if you want to finish the entire bowl of rice.The Teriyaki chicken don was again generous in size with decent amount of chicken and veg. The chicken was over cooked with a strong burnt taste. The sauce again was salty and oily.The California roll was nicely presented with limited prawn roe and average filling. The rice was flavorless but was well cooked with just the right amount of chewiness. Suggest to include rice vinegar to the rice to bring out the true potential of this dish.The biggest and most shocking disappointment was the service. We were greeted rudely by the Japanese lady working behind the counter. We asked some questions regarding the menu but only received a finger point to the menu page and an angry blunt face. The rest of the Japanese staff showed little care towards customers coming into the shop. I have to say, over the past 25 years living in Brisbane, I have never been treated this poorly in a Japanese owned and operated restaurant. Japanese are renowned for their polite and cheerful hospitality. In this restaurant all i got was a pissed off face and a unwelcoming stare.The owner of Natsumi Sushi, if you are reading this please understand hospitality is part of the dining experience. You have just lost a customer living near by.
Went to this Japanese eatery at Rochdale for dinner two weeks ago. It was unexpectedly busy (full house). There were at least four to five staff running the show behind the counter and our seats were so close to the counter that we could see lots of people approaching the counter to place dine-in or take-away orders. Overall production was good but slightly chaotic. Pastries of Gyoza and Meso soup were let down. Angry Crab Roll was average but the heroes were the Takoyaki and Teriyaki Tori Udon. There are definitely rooms to be improved, however it is worth to have a go because the price is quite reasonable.
This is the best thing about Rochedale! Small place with fresh made sushi – delicious! Our regular go to for takeaway. Friendly staff and great service.
Very little place but an authentic family style Japanese style restaurant. Not a fancy presentation but everything taste just good. Service is good price is very cheap. Considering the very convenient location and ease of parking , we will definitely return.
I have been to Japan many many times and am very picky with Japanese food, but I can say that Natsumi is one of the more authentic Japanese restaurants in Brisbane with actually a reasonable price. I recommend the yaki udon, katsudon, deep fried oysters and the sushi and sashimi. The price is very reasonable for the portion that you get. We come here at least once every fortnight. Highly recommended.
No Japanese Resturant serves tinned salmon in cone rolls only you.Pork dumplings are steamed not deep fried triangles.I have dined at several Japanese venues but without a doubt my experience at your establishment would be the worst Ihave ever had.
Picked up some takeaway today. I live 2 min away from rochedale shops so the food was not long in my car before started eating. I ordered karagge don, katsu curry, and the raw nigiri set. The curry and the karragge don were averagly good as usual. However the raw salmon and tuna was a complete disappointment, it was warm, had a weird unusal texture and tasted not fresh at all. I frequently eat sashimi It is one of my favorite foods, however i will not eat it here again.
