I made a visit to this place when it first opened a while back. As I grew up eating japanese food I was super excited to have this Japanese restaurant open in Pinelands shopping centre.Once I entered the restaurant i was welcomed with smile. Decor is somewhat cheap, or in another word.. Casual, which I did not mind.We ordered chicken nanban don, salmon sashimi and grilled salmon bento set.Taste was authentic, chicken was juicy and tartar sauce was delicious. Grilled salmon was good.Overall its above average and you can tell chef take a pride in what they serve which you can appreciate by looking into details. I think this place has great potential to get better and better over time and am excited to try out again in near future.

I think they have big portion and the price is reasonable. Although the decoration should be more attractive, but the taste is perfect. Service is good too. Very welcoming staff.

happy to have another Japanese restaurant to go in this block. came here for dinner on a Friday night, it was packed.had the sushi roll, which i think is fresh enough, just a little too much rice.and a unagi bento, which i am happy with the unagi of the quantity and the flavor(u know sometimes they just add too much sauce).

The interior looks pretty similar to what used to be here, Ramen Nakamura. Actual Japanese staff serving is a good sign.We ordered the Chicken Nanban set meal and Pork Curry (shabu cut). They were both pretty good. The tartare sauce was quite nice as other reviewers have commented. The curry had a slight heat to it – there was a sign saying it’s ‘Michael’s curry’. There is a half portion of the curry but it’s only a couple more dollars to get the full size version. The rice was a bit on the soggier side as another reviewer mentioned. For dessert we had the sake Ganache. It was probably a bit too much for just the two of us since it’s pretty rich. Unfortunately it didn’t look like the picture in the menu. It was nice but I don’t really know what sake tastes like, mainly tasted of dark chocolate. Anyway looking forward to trying the green tea creme brulee, shake and other interesting samurai drink.Service was straight forward and friendly. instagram.com

The karage chicken and chicken nanban don we ordered was good, although the portion wasn’t very big. The green tea drinks were good. You can tell they used the real matcha powder instead of the cheap fake ones that some shops use for bubble tea. Service was good and fast. Definitely would come again.

Thanks for the review from Tomcat that made me realise that the spot of the Ramen Marutama had been under new management. We were so lucky to get it on time to enjoy the $1 promo of Salmon Sashimi which was generous but couldbe betterin terms of freshness (suppose I could not complain for that price). Ordered the Tako Wasabi, Chicken Nanban & Pork Katsu to go with a plain udon. dishes came to the table within reasonable time span. I loved the Tako Wasabi which kick-started my appetite. Don of Chicken Nanban was again in generous portion, however, the feeling of creamy sauce was not my favouritethat was purely a subjective opinion. Hero of the day was the Pork Katsu with two large pieces of pork which was well deep-fried with crumb. The chef nailed the deep-fried skill that made the pork so crispy with juiced protein texture. It was the best of the same kind even compared to those that I had in Hokkaido early this year. Well done and deserved thumb-up! Overall experience is better than Ramen Marutama in terms of CP ratio and service. It is recommended.

Kokoro is a new eatery in the thriving Pineland plaza dining scene. The simple and warmly decorated establishment replaces Ra-Men Marutama as the only Japanese owned and operated restaurant in the centre. We were there for weekday lunch and after reviewing their simple two page menu, ordered: salmon sashimi ($1 grand opening special), California roll ($8.80), chicken nanban don ($11.80), teriyaki chicken set meal ($13.80) and green tea brulee ($4.80).The salmon sashimi consist six moderate sized slices with wasabi and a single rosemary stick. The salmon appears dry but was fresh and flavourful. Fresh wasabi (non-powder) was provided which adds a fragrant wasabi scent and a strong bite. At full price $9.90, its on the expensive side. 3.5/5The California roll was up next containing crab sticks, avocado, cucumber & fly fish roe. First impression: fish roe overload (in a good way). A taste of the overall package is where the issue begin: sushi rice was very soft and sticky with no rice vinegar seasoning, nori was soggy and chewy, fillings lacked mayo and cannot draw out the expected creamy and seafood taste. The only positive was the crunchy and salty fish roe. From a taste pov, its among the worst California roll Ive had in Brisbane. 2/5Kororos signature nanban don made a welcoming arrival with fried and seasoned sweet and sour chicken cubes, shredded cabbage and rice all topped with Japanese tartar sauce and spring onions. The chicken was tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned with right amount of sweet vs sour. The tartar sauce was in-house made with big fresh egg flavours and hints of pickle. Combined as a package, its an east meets west flavour explosion which excited my palate. The letdown however, was the poorly cooked rice (too soft and sticky). 3.5/5Teriyaki chicken set meal is the second main to arrive. The set consists: sliced teriyaki chicken, green salad, potato salad, pickled Chinese cabbage, two slice of salmon and white rice with fried salmon flakes. First taste of the chicken and I nearly spat it out, the meat lacked seasoning and was cold rather then stir fried. The flavour presents an unappetising strong chicken stink which made it hard to swallow. Salads were fresh but nothing special and the rice again poorly cooked. 2.5/5Green tea brulee served in a mug was the dessert to conclude our meal. The torched sugar top layer was under cooked and presented a sticky texture rather than crispy. The custard base on the other hand was well flavoured with strong egg and hints of green tea. Considering the price and serving size, its a 3/5.Hint: Focus on their rice bowl and set meals. Sushi selections are underwhelming.
