Get two very freshly prepared serve of fish and chips, battered was absolutely crunchy. The only downside was a bit of room of improvements for their chips.Staff are friendly and food served very quickly.Would recommend for a visit.
I just ordered cod, chips and salad for $15. Cod size was huge and fresh. I don’t think the salad was worth an extra $5 though. I think locals are happy to pay for good quality..
Consistently good food, good prices. Fish is really good, calamari is delicious. Great spot in front of the water and has gelato for after!!
The waterfront is too competitive for average fish and chips. Chips were ‘good’, fish was ‘ok’, but the calamari was actually bad though. There’s better fish and chips nearby.
This restaurant was very busy when we dropped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Despite this our fish, chips and salad meals came out very quickly and they were delicious and very fresh. We opted to eat in (rather than takeaway) and our meals were presented in cardboard trays ,so the chips stayed nice and crisp. We both had grilled fish and we thought that our fish was ever so slightly overcooked.
Good fish, chips, calamari and pineapple fritter. Nothing exceptional, not the best calamari in the world but a huge serving of it and everything was hot, fresh and yum. We called ahead to order and service was super prompt and friendly.
As far as the fish and chip shops go in Sandgate (and surrounding areas).. It’s our favourite. They seem to be more accountable re/ethically sourcing the seafood. Although it would be great to see more. We have started travelling to Samies because of the excellent communication and support of responsibly fishing. Hopefully Fishmonger follow suit. The fish always tastes fresh, although usually over-cooked.. even at medium. You need to be particularly clear with staff about what you want. When it’s cooked well (not well done!).. its delicious. As far as salads.. its worth the short walk to Dougs. Although keep the fish and chips at Fishmonger!
