Serving the classic French Bistro cuisine, this Southbank restaurant has a good range of menu and drink choices in keeping with the theme. Our group ordered the fish (cod) with salad and chips as well as steak with same accompaniments. Caesar salads with chicken were also selected. All meals were nicely flavoured and prepared. French beer is on tap as well as a range of other drinks and wines (French, naturellement). Service was attentive and the venue has a nice aspect in the park lands with both inside and outside tables, and some background music appropriately French. Should you be tempted, yes they have creme brle and other classic deserts. Value was good generally and particularly for the lunch specials ($12-$15.
Had lunch here on easter Monday. Ordered from their lunch special, French steak with frites. They didn’t ask how I would like steak to be cooked, which is fine as I just assumed it would be cooked to chef’s recommendation. However when it came out it was cooked to well done and as result it was little tough. Steak was also not rested enough, and plate was left bloody. Frites wasn’t crisp and tasted little stale.Although service was okay, and food was a big let down. From my personally experience, I would not recommend this restaurant to my family and friends. Also beware of a hidden gratitude charge. Although their lunch special was reasonably priced, I noticed that they added a gratitude charge on top of the final bill without mentioning anything. I found this very sneaky.
The staff were very friendly and lovely tasty authentic French food.Enjoyed sittingand watching the world go by as we had a couple of drinks and food.
AMBIENCE – 5/5I absolutely loved being able to People Watch on little Stanley street. We went during Halloween events which meant we got to see all the kids and adults dressed in their costumes parade up and down the sidewalk dividing the restaurant. There was also live music – elevator music – which helped with the atmosphere as wellSERVICE 5/5Wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Able to recommend a good wine to go with our dishes. Never left our glasses go empty by constantly refilling with water. They also spoke French which was a nice touch – although perhaps to be expected at any good genuine French restaurant. PRESENTATION 5/5The entree we ordered looked simple but elegant. Bit of pastry on top of snails. Mains – Confit duck and confit salmon were presented in a fine dining manner, no issues, definitely made us keen to dig in.TASTE 4.5/5Food was delicious. Snails were plentiful in the entree, perhaps 12? In a serve. Confit duck was cooked really well, and love how they crisped up the skin.Salmon was good – but Im not sure what I was expecting as it didnt really knock my socks off. And personally I thought the rice tasted weird/watery, but that might be biased from my jasmine rice eating background.OVERALLUltimately a really nice place to eat and enjoy fine French dining. Love the people watching aspect and atmosphere, with service and food complimenting well with the illusion of being on the side streets of Paris.
I have been working there for 2 months, and this was the most frustrating working experience I ever had. I was working as a chef. The boss would arrive around 12 to install the terrasse which was strange, suppliers had so many unpaid that they were all asking payment upon delivery and I was asked to do checks linked to an account that was closed. Worked for an average of 60hours a week gettin paid 38 hours, overtime wasn’t paid because the boss stated that overtime isn’t mandatory to be paid in Australia, which I search on ombudsman and other site to seek for truth and I had confirmation that she was lying to her employees, and lying to customers as well seeing her selling expensive wine that was not in Stock, pouring cheap wine from a bottle to another so she could make profit. We could compile stories shared with all previous and actual employees and write a book about this joke.
Went here specifically for the creme brle and it was one of the best choice that we’ve made and we also ordered the chocolate lava(?) dish. The creme brle was creamy and not very sweet and have a hint of vanilla, since we shared both dish among 3 of us, we end up ordering another creme brle xD. The chocolate dish was pretty tasty too as after you’ve eaten the ice cream and eat the chocolate cake, you can taste the slight bitterness of the the chocolate cake but will be back for the creme brle and hopefully can try the poached pear next time
Amazing service! Very friendly staff, funny too. Wonderful cocktails and a wonderful vibe with good music. Recommend this place super highly! Cute little stop in Southbank
