I wanted a fresh healthy sushi, but when I went to the store I saw that the ‘normal’ sushi plates were considerably more expensive than in many places (unless in an upmarket area). So they ranged from about $3.30 to $5.50 per plate. As I deemed the sushi a bit of a rip off, I chose the Japanese chicken curry instead which was $9.80. It was good to see some lettuce in the bowl, but the chicken was of poor quality and very fatty and stringy. I’ve never written a review before, but my disappointment at the taste and quality of the curry has prompted me to do so. Although I work close to Hana Sushi I won’t be going back there in a hurry.
Not the most impressive looking Japanese place from the outside or inside. I believe most of the clientele would be patients and family members of the Mater. Hospital. There were certainly alot of people in scrubs in there when we went. While the train is the main feature they also do a la carte meals at a reasonable price. B had the katsudon, he said it was good. I thought it looked quite dry, they usually have some sauciness on them. It was a smallish piece of meat with a fair bit of rice. I had the teriyaki chicken. It was tasty, a generous amount of chicken and salad (predominantly iceberg lettuce) but absolutely swimming in teriyaki sauce and mayo on the salad. The pool of sauce was okay but the amount of mayo was insane. Edamame were good but there was no bowl for the shells. Service was friendly and fast. I’d eat this again but ask them to chill out on the mayo.
I’ve eaten at Hana Sushi on multiple occasions and catered several lunches with them at the Children’s Hospital. The sushi is pretty average, but the Chicken Karaage is definitely above average. There may have been some issue with staff/service in the past, but seems to be improved under new management. Popped in last night for a quick Chicken Karaage on my way home and it was great.
