Perfectly serviceable hot dogs that aren’t worth the $8 asking price because frankly, they’re hot dogs.Great Whiskey selection, conservative Draft selection (nothing you won’t find at any other American themed place) and friendly staff. It’s fine.

Funky New York style bar. Not the cheapest drinks, but that’s the same as everywhere else these days. There is one lounge / bench seat that I recall seeing. The rest of the seats there are bar stools. Location is good. Booked this bar for after work drinks.

Manhattan Line is a bit of a cheesy, run of the mill bar on the tourist strip of Southbank. That said, the location is good and the bar is quiet enough for a solo break when ‘tourist-ing’ around for the whole day, away from the peak paths of Southbank strip. Its an extremely small kitchen, so they keep the menu simple with standard bar fare of hotdogs, burgers, wings and chips. The staff were a bit more of a standout, showing personality and some decent hospitality. I didn’t stick around long enough to test any real mixing skills but the place is suitable enough for a quiet stopover or with a large group for drinking and snacking purposes only. Consider it mid-range. crumbs-au.com

$8-12 is pretty steep for a hot dog, so I’ve passed The Manhattan Line hundreds of times without stopping. As much as I love the idea of a whiskey bar that serves American street food, it was the music – the soundtrack to my life growing up in the US – that drew me in and led me to give them a try this evening.Nice selection of whiskeys on offer, great music and pleasant staff. Sadly, the hot dogs are not good.I went with the $12 Empire State hot dog, which includes a beef frank, bacon, cheese and is topped with shoestring fries. The hot dog itself was grey on the outside (usually the result of boiling or steaming way too long) and lacked flavor. There was a tiny bit of crumbled bacon under the dog and a little bit of shredded cheese on top. Had I paid $3 for this on the streets of New York I would have rated it a 2. At $12, this is way overpriced and just not very good. The hot dog rated a 1.The best part were the shoestring fries. They were crispy and nicely salted. They rate a 3.Even if they get credit for a cool vibe and good music, the food was quite poor. Overall, they rate a 2.

This place makes a great hot dog, or should I say not dog. Seriously, they have an extensive collection of hot dogs based on American favourites and you can swap out any of the regular dogs for vegan ones. It’s great. I’m bit of a hot dog purist so I love the NY: ketchup, mustard, onion and cheese. The first few times I came here they would serve it on a roll that seemed to come straight from the fridge- cold and dry but for the last while they have been steaming/warming them. It makes a massive difference and are now unfaultable

I had high hopes for The Manhattan Line. I had been wanting to try a for a while. However I felt a little let down after frequenting. We arrived and sat down. After looking over the menu we went to order the meals and drinks. At the counter, two staff were making drinks but could not acknowledge that we were there. After what felt like an awkward 20 minutes (more likely only 8 or so minutes) of standing there waiting to be served or even acknowledged, the staff finally gave some attention. They seemed to want to take an exorbitant amount of time to make the 4 drinks between the two of them. I would of left but I was with family and they wanted to stay. By this stage the line had grown, but the garnishes on the drinks seemed of more importance. Even with the apparent attention of the staff member, it felt we did not really have their attention as they were to interested with what the other staff were doing. We ordered our meals and drinks and sat down. I ordered the Empire State Dog. It was ok, but was not anything exciting. By all accounts the French Dip Sandwich was nice. We all shared a Poutine, which was nothing more than chips overdosed with a gravy. In all honesty, it is probably a bar that has food, not a food place that has drinks.

Tasty string fries and decent drinks. Friendly staff and love that they have a vegan option for hot dogs – while it is a little bland like all other vegan substitutes at restaurants, it is considerate to have the option and still cooked well, so it’s as tasty as it could be for the ingredients used. Stays open late, plays good music that suits the scene, and great decor.
