The Meeting Place – South Brisbane. The Cineplex cinemas all have a conjoined cafe, where patrons can go a few minutes early and have something to eat before their show starts or afterwards if they please. This is a good idea and provides some further apt options for snacks while watching a movie. Of course there is still the candy bar, and some of the candy bar options are available from the cafes; it is like meeting the requests of several people at once. On the second floor foyer of the South Bank cinema is a surprise waiting for patrons here to see a movie. A small cafe holds a selection of sweets, a selection of hot snacks for the movies (popcorn can be bought here) and all sorts of drinks which includes – the best of all – COFFEE! Somehow I don’t think that this can just be walked into off the street by anyone, but a ticket for a movie is needed beforehand. It will not set you back too much, since as far as cinema prices go, the tickets from South Bank – or Cineplex in general – are amongst the best value and cheapest around; a movie can be seen here for under $5. The snack bar is also pretty reasonable with the prices. Better yet, there are a number of meal deals – the one I got was a coffee and any choice of sweet for only $7. With one exception, anything that is purchased from here is allowed into the cinema. Suffice to say, the food from the cafe holds up well. The citrus tart was good quality, with a buttery pastry and an obvious flavour of lemon in the custard. The coffee had a good taste to it and was quite well done. To reiterate, this is actual espresso-based coffee that is available; now I have seen it served everywhere and can die happy. This is well worth trying out for any cinema patrons at this particular location. Movie snacks have come quite a way, and why not have good quality options as a choice? With such friendly service to go along with, and the recently frequency that I go to watch movies here a fair bit, I will be going here quite a lot in the future.
