Ive been to IFR a few times, most recently with some work colleagues. The space is open and simple, but can be subject to the prevailing weather – in summer, we found it uncomfortably hot, although on a temperate July evening, it was fine. The food at IFR is always very flavoursome, if at times not particularly subtle, but always delicious. Terrific value for money, and with a great, inexpensive Australian wine list of lesser known grapes from small producers. The service is casual, which may not be to everyones liking – but hey, it suits the overall vibe. For me – not your usual Italian, great menu variety, fantastic flavours and good value for money. Thumbs up.

Went here for weeknight dinner with the partner. We went fairly early-ish and without reservations – there were plenty of seats available, however there was a steady trickle of diners who came in throughout the night. We ordered glasses of red wine each – Billy Button Reposco (lighter red) and Lino Ramble Montepulciano (darker, deeper red). The dishes on the menu are made for sharing. We ordered (i) the special for the night, which was a ‘seafood ravioli’ – beautifully whole mussel ravioli with a flavourful seafood jus and scallops, (ii) ‘insalata di barbabietola’ – perfectly cooked and textural vegetarian dish with golden beetroots and creamy beetroot ricotta, (iii) ‘polpette’ – moist, well-cooked meatballs with a rich sauce that we happily mopped up with additional crispy-fluffy bread. For desserts, we tried the (i) ‘panna cotta’ – interesting unique and fresh flavours, as well as a textural experience, (ii) ‘torta caprese’ – surprisingly light in texture with rich chocolate almond favour.Service was very friendly and efficient. Casual ambience – an unassuming store-front with limited street parking nearby; indoor seating in an open warehouse-type area. Reasonable prices.Overall, an impressive set of innovative and delicious Italian meals that are not limited to the mainstream ‘pasta and pizza’. Would recommend to other lovers of Italian food.
