Late Lunch at Brick & Bean with favourite daughter on Sunday.First impression was the decor was very modern, black painted features & faux exposed brick. The food display cabinet on the right hand side as you walk in the door didn’t have its lighting on and looked extemely sparse with a token display of a plate of plain scones, cake & a slice or two covered in plastic wrap as morning tea suggestion. Maybe during the week the cabinet will be fuller. No full table service, so you order up at the counter. The staff are friendly and efficient and the prices are very reasonable. I also found it very noisy. Chair scraping and other patrons chatter made it hard to hold a conversation till some of the patrons left as it was getting close to closing time at 2pm. Maybe next time I’ll sit in the outside alfresco area.Being a hot day we both ordered Iced lattes. I chose the Smashed Avo on Sourdough with 2 poached eggs. Favourite daughter ordered the Mushroom Burger with Onion Rings and Hash Browns. Our Iced lattes came first and were just perfect. Strong and smooth, hit the spot! Our food arrived and food presentation excellent. Unfortunately the flavours were just ok. The Smashed Avo felt like it was missing something. Maybe seasoning? Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t awful but the ingredients just needed the love required to make them shine. Favourite daughter felt the same about her mushroom burger. The flavours were just ok, but nothing really made it pop.I will definitely come back and give this place another go because its reasonably priced and also next time to try a good flat white.
Explored this cafe in the morning, which is close to perfect. Service and coffee are all good and so as the presentation of the scone with jam & cream. Just the texture of the scone is slightly down as compared to the best that I had somewhere else. Cheers! Rating 4.5/5
