Redroom has the best chips.. the best! The food is pub food and mostly unhealthy, but it is very tasty and worth the food coma. Favourites are the red burger and the parma. Drinks and good are good value, but service can be patchy. I have been several times and when going in a big group it is not uncommon that someone people are half way through their meals before anyone even gets theirs.I try to avoid this place when there is trivia or something similar on, it is already loud on a normal day!Watch out for the kookaburras who will steal your chips given half a chance.
If you work at UQ then you’ve eaten at the Red Room – at least once. This is the bar/bistro at the St Lucia Campus and always puts out reasonably priced decent food and has a good bar with a large selection of, again, reasonably priced drinks. Probably a tad more than students are happy paying for, but for us staff members it’s a step up from the refecs and not that much more expensive.I’ve eaten here heaps over the 13 years I’ve been on campus, time to finally review the place. Service is pick and pay at the bar – you can also do drinks at the same time. or go and do those separately around the other side of the bar. You get given a buzzer and collect your food when it’s ready from the kitchen. The menu is fairly standard with all the usual pub grub staples and there are specials also available. Even on a busy day, food is usually out pretty quickly – for our recent lunch on a very quiet Monday, I think our wait was around 10 minutes.We were celebrating my birthday (one of those significant ones) and there were five of us. Variously between us we ordered the haloumi and mushroom burger (really good I was told, looked fabulous), chicken ceasar salad (can’t really go wrong with this I dont’ think and RR do a decent one), chicken parmi (a really decent sized serve with a very generous topping of cheese and napoli sauce – this is what I usually order, although I didn’t on this day), I went with the cajun chicken wrap and can’t for the life of me remember the other order.My cajun chicken wrap was delicious – tender grilled chicken with enough cajun spice to kick in with a generous filling of mixed leaves and tomato lightly toasted, a side serve of the yummy RR chips (they do really good chips here) and an aioli to dip those into. In all a really good lunch – whenever I come to the RR I always wonder why I don’t come here a bit more often.Anyway all washed down with a few bottles of very reasonably priced sparkling. Great lunch as always – solid eatery on campus.

Average pub food but fun to hang out. As a uq staff member it is fun to hang out at the red room when it is uni holidays and play a round of pool for friday lunch. Prices are ok meals are average.
