The storm of hot pot arrived Brisbane recently after the attack of Malatang. As usual, many young generation Chinese rush to have their exploration; however reservation system of these newly opened hot pot restaurants would only allow reservation for very early birds at 5:30pm (very early dinner but only allow one and a half hours for your dining time) otherwise you must wait for your table. This restaurant is one of them. Went for exploration after many friends have tasted it with positive and negative feedbacks. Honestly, lay-out looks great and training of staff is good. Overall service is friendly and attentive. Food-wise, varieties of soup bases, freshness, quality, portions and presentation are above average. Having said that average prices are definitely high and two of us spent over $150.00 sounds too much for hot pot. The serious problem that we encountered is the ventilation and air-conditioning. On the night that we were there and the position near the counter and the window next to outside pathway. We felt very hot and our sweat keep running down on my face. Wish the management pay attention to it, particularly when they are serving hot pot in Summer time.Rating 3.5/5
The service we received here was fantastic. I had not tried this type of cuisine before. The first choice you make is your broth type. You then choose your add ins. Perhaps because I am not used to the cuisine it was difficult to know what to order. We dont eat too spicy a food and ordered one side which was too hot for our taste. The food was fresh. If you enjoy this cuisine you may really enjoy this place. The food size is generous. Knowing what flavours to add together may have changed my rating.
Things I look for in a hot-pot restaurant are:Fresh ingredients, abundance of sauces, flavor of the broth, cleanliness and most of all, VALUE. Davids hotpot ticks all of the boxes and delivers a incredibly fun and entertaining dining experience to enjoy with a group of friends or family. Personally I would recommend going with 6 or more. This will allow you to order a wider variety of ingredients. I am a huge fan of spicy food and have a decent tolerance. There are 4 spice levels to the broth. Usually I would go with above average or spiciest level. My friends however chose the mild spicy. Fortunately for me the mild spicy proved the perfect amount of heat whilst still being able to enjoy the flavor of the hot pot (It was still damn spicy but just spicy enough). To give you an idea of of my tolerance, I enjoy a Samyang spicy ramen but 2 or 3X is not fun for me. For me, Ive found my new favorite Chinese hot-pot in Brisbane. This new restaurant is buzzing with a vibrant atmosphere and is a must try for any fan of Szechuan style.
