I waited til we’d been here a few times before making an assessment.Atmosphere and service is just okay.. Restaurant decor is really bland, tables even have plastic sheets to protect the real table clothes. Waitresses were very busy dealing with takeaway orders in between dealing with those dining in. It reminds me of eating in a food court. On the plus side – the green curry chicken actually had some spiciness to it, without being overloaded with veggies. The chilli duck was yummy.

FOOD laden with MSG, leaving one to either drink more wine or more water to quench the after effect thirst !!!!  Had to agree with all the reviews that the taste was too westernised.  Manager was quite rude, leaving one to think that it was customer’s fault rather than just poor customer service.

Amazingly bad service. I’m told the food is OK. I would not know. With a group of 10, I ordered the chili duck. It didn’t not come by the time the rest of the meals we’re served, that arrived over about a 20 minute period (except the rice which took 40 minutes). After being reassured my meal was on its way, the cook worked out that someone else at the table had my meal and that made it my problem, not theirs. They then proceeded to charge me for a meal that I had not received. If you want a decent meal, avoid Kampung Malay.

Oh! What a night!. We have eaten at this restuarant regularly over a number of years. We went there on 21/9/12 at 6pm and ordered 2 entrees and 4 main courses. They were busy and we were not overly concerned about being served quickly but when we received the 2 entrees and then one main course and the rice and then had an inordinate wait it was not acceptable. Particularly when 2 waitresses came to the table and said there had been a mix up and they thought we had wanted a gap between courses. When we said we didnt want any gap we would have been happy if they had then rectified the mistake, but we had to wait a long period for the next courses and they didnt rectify the mistake they lost me. I was past it by the time the rest of the meal arrived and couldnt eat it.

Great staple Asian take-away restaurant. I’ve been a customer of Kampung Malay for many years now. The menu hasn’t changed at all in that time, but it doesn’t matter as there is a huge choice on offer. The food is great and packs so much more flavour than chinese cuisine. I understand other reviewers complaints about lack of heat, but we have always asked for chilli-infused soy as a condiment which is made with birdseye chilli, and this adds the heat you’re looking for. its a staple take-away restaurant for the family when you are just too tired to cook at home. Its also great to dine in, although because its so busy all the time it can be noisy. But you know what, you just won’t care because it adds to the ambience. If you’re looking for a fancy restaurant or somewhere to take someone that you want to dazzle, this isn’t it, but it is fantastic to go with good friends and family as its more relaxed and friendly. That’s what we love about it.Our family favourites are salt and pepper calamari (although if you get this as takeaway, it gets a bit soggy – best to have this eating in), bangkok fish (ditto for the calamari), kong-po prawns, coconut curry soup, yum yum chicken, kampung beef and sizzling beef. The chilli soy condiment they also do takeaway.
