Wow what an absolutely fantastic dinner. A fusion explosion and enjoyment of something a little different – not at all expected.Staying at QT, I didn’t wish to venture too far tonight, so the hotel’s food offerings were on the cards. Japanese has always been (and remains) one of my favourite cuisines and so the local Yamagen was on the cards. The Yamagen menu offered a few tantalising fusion options which are not “normal” Japanese faire, so I decided to go out on a limb and try these. I am so glad I did!I started with the Sashimi Tacos. One word – WOW. Taste and texture were fantastic and an absolute joy. A fantastic fusion take and well worth trying. The crispy pork belly for main was chosen and also just as delicious. The nashi pear base was great and the textures complimented each other perfectly. My only complaint was that there was too little of it, I could have eaten two of these (because they were so delicious, not because of the portion size…)But dessert was also on the cards, and the “Yonuts” were chosen. I am so glad I did. Powdered wake seaweed with fine sugar created a sweet and savoury juxtaposition which perfectly complimented the isolated caramel balls of joy. Oh wow.The wait staff were attentive but not overbearing and the whole experience left me wanting more.I try to dine at different restaurants when interstate, but I will be hard pressed not to come back for take #2 tomorrow evening…Thank you Yamagen for a great dinner – definitely one to savour again!

Delicious food at the sushi bar seating. We had the beef tataki – 3.5/5, the nasu miso – 5/5, the sashimi tacos – 4/5, the hot pork belly – 5/5, the agedashi tofu – 4/5, the soft shell crab sushi – 4/5 And the Yonuts – 5/5. The service was a little slow though especially to order and you definitely need a booking on a Saturday night.

loved the yamagen sushi so yummy, popcorn prawn average, sashimi very good, sashimi tacos yummy, pork skewers average, raw scallop good, matcha dessert way to sweet.Well designed setting and staff very knowledgeable on food although we waited about 5 mins at the door to be seated as no staff around.
