After a long day’s work we went here for dinner with a friend. It is a simple takeaway joint with neat decor and well folded serviettes, operated by a Chinese couple. We ordered a tom yum goong (prawns) soup each, a cashew prawns stir fry, a garlic and pepper prawns stir fry with coconut rice to share and a pad thai prawns. The tom yum soups were good value with a reasonable quantity for the price, well cooked prawns and a good, fresh flavour to the soup. This dish rated around 4, and really raised our expectations. Unfortunately we were disappointed. The stir fries were fairly generic Asian style stir fries with well cooked prawns and fresh ingredients but without any outstanding flavours. They both rated a 2.5. The pad thai was the most disappointing dish of the evening. Apart from the prawns which were well cooked, it was diabolical. The flavour was so poor and the dish so poorly prepared that we left most of it on the table. The coconut rice served was a large and sufficient quantity and tasted okay. The cut chillies were provided on the side were frozen and not hot or flavoursome. The chilli sauce provided was also not much better. Quantities and prices are good, but apart from the tom yum soup there is little to recommend here. Our search for good Thai in Brisbane continues.
Very basic suburban Thai Restauarant. Visited last night with 10 other guests and ordered quite a few starters and mains. Nothing really stood out and a couple of dishes (pad Thai and calamari starter) were really ordinary. No real wow factor with curries. Do yourself a favour and drive 10 more mins to Mons Ban Sabai at Camp Hill for a special Thai experience. The only real highlight was that the bill was only $25 per person.
