What a surprise. Party of four who are regular at dining , we shared 4 different entrees ,tapas all were superb.Again different mains none of could fault our meal.Highly recommended we all said we would return.Service excellentWe are all highly experienced in hospitality
Really nice atmosphere, and very busy even midweek, and they deserve to be: it’s a pretty slick operation. Great friendly staff, and great service. Interesting textures, and tastes with the food. The highlight was a special of sandcrab with hollandaise, in a sort of savoury custard: decadently rich, and ethereally light.I wasn’t a fan of the duck & pork spring rolls, as I thought the pastry was a bit thick, and chewy, almost, dare I say it, reminiscent of a Chiko roll, rather than flakey like filo, but my dining partner really liked it, so I guess it’s down to personal preference.Looking forward to trying it out again. Interesting wine list too, with some nice aged options.
Rated 3.5. Made online reservations via their website for Friday night dinner with friends. We ordered entrees of bread and smoked butter, croquettes and the grilled lamb backstrap. The croquettes (2x per plate) were simple – crispy exterior and smooth creamy filling that is relatively subtle in flavour. The smoked butter was lovely and came with a small, warm loaf of bread. The lamb was one of the highlights – perfectly cooked, tender lamb with also a smoky grilled flavour. For mains, we shared the pork belly (‘shared for two’ size as per the menu) as well as a side of chips. The pork belly was well-cooked – tender meat with crispy skin. The accompanying braised cabbage was smoky in flavour. The chips were unfortunately a bit of a let-down – standard 8mm cut chips with standard aioli. We each ordered separate desserts to end the evening – choosing the cheese plate (with blue goat’s cheese), the panna cotta and the creme brulee. The panna cotta and creme brulee were also fairly standard. Well-prepared with simple flavours, with a side of fresh berries.Smart-casual ambience – expect to raise your voice to hear your partner on a busy night. There are indoors and outdoors (with heaters) seating options. Service was reasonable – the table was cleaned and new plates were prepared before each course. However, it was sometimes difficult to attract attention to a roaming staff member to order more drinks or to collect the bill. Reasonable prices for the meals and ambience (and area). One suggestion is for more serving cutlery to be made available as our group members had to sometimes re-use our own cutlery amongst the shared food.Overall, a solid restaurant for standard dinner options in the Newstead area.
Went to Drum for my sons birthday. We had perfect meal. Shared starter of quail , spring rolls and gnocchi, was just right , not to heavy. I had pork belly was delicious, wife and daughter had market fish , perfectly cooked, and son had sirloin steak, beautiful.Anybody who has a sweet tooth i would recommend the creme brulee , the best creme brulee I’ve had for long time.Staff and service again were top notch. All in all great meal , no complaints, will definitely be revisiting.
Delicious! I had a 3 course meal beginning with cauliflower croquettes. They were perfectly crunchy on the outside and cheesy on the inside! The main was pumpkin gnocchi which was also very tasty. The dessert was panna cotta. Perfect way to finish the 3 courses. Also happy with the service and atmosphere.
Not a bad joint, didnt mind the food or service. dont think ill rush back at the value for money though. food was fresh but lacked a little attention to detail. maybe next time.
Arrived here with great expectations after two recommendations only to be disappointed. Decor and ambience great. Moderately attended on a Wednesday so promising. Initial waiter seemed to be on the money. Then got swapped to a young lady with no idea. That dragged things out. Entres were ok without being brilliant. Mains – ribs (an entire meal) were average – can do better at home, duck a bit tough. Third waiter to finish was ho hum. In summary looks can be deceiving as can our friends recommends, unfortunately!!
