Hedgehog slice was so stale it was difficult to bite into, was definitely several days old. Went at 5pm on a Saturday and all the shelves were still full, so it seems like they bake in bulk & very little is fresh.
My partner stopped by here to try out those amazing looking sausage rolls in the hot box. His verdict on the pastry was good, had a nice crunch & was flaky, sausage filling average.
Tried the Chunky Steak Pie at Boulevard Bakery in Morningside. The pie had good crust, which was nice and flaky. The flavour was ok, but as you can see from the photo the ‘chunky steak’ was mostly mince with a few chunks of beef and a bit too much onion.The best of the three pies I had on the day, but I would rather drive the extra five minutes to Beefy’s in Cannon Hill for consistently wonderful pies.
I love the pies and sausage rolls from this place. Beautiful flaky pastry…and service with a smile! Sausage roll on down and grab yourself a treat 🙂
