Looking for a crowded evening with some cheap beer to drink then this is the place. They have week long activities as well. Tuesday night is the trivia night and my favorite. The food is fine which goes well with the beer. Cocktails pitchers are cheap as well. A place to make friends, hang out and pretty friendly staff. If you are in the neighborhood and have some time on your hand with little money to spend then this is the place. Surely the building looks dilapidated but the atmosphere during weekends is good.

You know exactly what you’re getting yourself into at the RE. Bloody heartbreaking for students everywhere when they increased their basics from $3 to $4. But $10 jugs remain hehe yewww. The quality of the music has actually increased tenfold in the last year or two. Much more up with the times, and the Trap Room… Bloody FILTHY, in the best kind of way. I’m not as into Wednesday’s as yesteryear, but a Sunday pub crawl or to watch the footy/boxing/UFC/PGA Champs is still as prime as ever.

The coffee and staff are fantastic but the manager is unpleasant so steer away from her if you can.

Solid Local Pub. The RE is a great local pub that has a variety of options on offer, whether you’re there for a trivia night, live music, sport matches, a game of pool upstairs or just for a quiet drink, there’s a variety of spots to sit to suit your mood. Expected variation of drinks for a pub (all stock standard brands and flavours) and the food is quite tasty and large portions – generally struggle to finish off one of the RE’s portions (usually attempt the steak sandwich or wedges w/sour cream & sweet chilli sauce). Steak to date has never been dry, good amount of salad heaped on and the remainder of the plate heaped with chips. Comparing it to the picture uploaded by another user, I think the chef may have changed, because the steak sandwich I ordered was overflowing and required a two hand grip!

Greasy, Good & Cheap (and Im not talking about the customers)!. I arrived at the Royal Exchange Hotel after my original lunch plans fell through, and Im so glad they did! The staff here were friendly and welcoming, the place was clean and the choice of $10 weekly lunch specials were pretty good! After hearing some interesting rumours about this place, Im glad I checked it out for myself!Entering the pub, I gathered it was bar service so I asked the woman behind the counter where I order food. She was very friendly and in a nice way, told me where to go! 🙂 The counter to order food was a bit further along so I headed that way and looked at the menu. Taped to the counter were all of the $10 lunch specials: Steak Sandwich with chips, Beef Burger with chips, Salt & Pepper Calamari, BLT with chips. I ordered the steak sandwich from a nice gentleman who could see what medical state I was in and offered to bring my food over to me. I was very appreciative of this offer! Otherwise, I would have been given a buzzer/pager for notification that the meal was ready for pick-up.About 5 minutes or so later my meal appeared, brought out by the gentleman who had taken my order. He had also brought me cutlery and napkins, and again I was thankful! The steak sandwich, which was not open-faced as I had been expecting, was quite a good size! The serving of chips however, was a touch on the small side which was too bad as Im a chip person. The white bread of the sandwich was nice and thick and had been toasted on the grill as it had lines on it. This was decent bread and was a good choice for holding everything together. The steak was juicy but did have a lot of gristle. Im not too surprised by this as it was a $10 meal. The steak had been coated but not smothered in a not-too-bold BBQ sauce so it wasnt overwhelming. Great flavour! The sandwich also contained thick-cut pieces of tomato and shredded iceberg lettuce, both of which were fresh. The chips were fantastic! These too were thick cut, had a great crispiness to them and were excellently salted! Fabulous pub chips! Next time I might just order a plate of these!I have to say that I really liked this place! It wasnt too busy at lunch, which I liked, but I have a feeling it might be a lot busier in the evening. With some big, flat screen TVs, I could see this place being a popular drinking spot for watching sports. This is a great place to have an inexpensive lunch with friends as the Royal Exchange Hotel has a relaxing, slow-paced atmosphere with grungy, alternative music playing in the background. Its the kind of place you could meet friends at or just pop in and strike up a conversation with other patrons. Either way, its a very laid back enjoyable kind of place!

Standard BWS/ Woolworths owned pub. Food was fine, head there for $10 special. Steak sandwitch pretty good. Parmy/schnitz looked pretty good as well. 3*stars
