Wild lotus is located on the main stretch within earshot of the ocean. The decor is bizarre, with shiny plastic tablecloths attempting to assume the appearance of silk or satin. We decided that because of our location to the ocean, and some positive reviews (which in retrospect are very hard to explain), we would indulge in a seafood banquet. We ordered the coconut prawns, the calamari and the scallops with a bruschetta on the side as a bit of an afterthought. All the food came at the same time, and very quickly. This was annoying as it took up the entire table. It was also suspicious as it seemed much of the food was pre-prepared.The bruschetta included the unusual addition of melted cheese, but was relatively inoffensive. It featured a swirl of balsamic reduction to make it look fancy. The prawns we’re encrusted in grated coconut and deepfried. The looked quite interesting but they were soggy and impossibly bland, the mellow flavours of coconut and prawn doing nothing for each other, with the mango mess smeared on the plate adding little interest. We ended up peeling the prawns from their deepfried coffin and eating them out of respect for the creature they once were. The calamari had no texture whatsoever. I hope that it was frozen out of a bag, because if the ingredient was fresh it was wasted. The scallops came stuck to shells. It looked like those shells have seen many meals and I assume this presentation technique is designed to feign freshness. It’s possible that they were the original shells but given the rest of the food it seems unlikely. The scallops were over cooked, small and dry.On the plus side, the alcohol was very reasonably priced.
The food was not that good and was overpriced. Both mine and my partner’s dishes used excessive sugar. Does the chef not taste the food before they serve it? My Thai beef salad appeared to be drenched in some sort of sweet teriyaki style sauce not a Thai style dressing which if done correctly should have a lemon/lime/fish sauce taste. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The restaurant was well attended on a mid-week evening which happened to be absolutely pelting down with rain. Therefore, combined with the fine dining aspect, you know you’re in for a good thing going in. And I wasn’t disappointed. Had an excellent Italian meal and attentive service.I don’t know what the negative commenters are on about.
We really enjoyed our meal here, the food was excellent as was the service. We had a later sitting so the morton bay bugs we wanted were running low (we wanted four there was only two), a staff member (maybe manager/owner) came to let us know asking if we’d like anything else instead or if we were OK to share the two which we really appreciated.I really do want to applaud the staff, we were the second to last people there and even though I’m sure they all wanted to go home they remained friendly and attentive the whole time we were there.
