I really really wanted this place to be an absolute winner! I always do when I visit rural smaller roasters. Unfortunately this, although inviting, little roaster left much to be desired. As a filter coffee enthusiast I tried a couple of their own coffees, chemex, nitro, cold drip. None of which were particularly fantastic so I thought Id give it one last chance and buy a bag of the Costa Rica beans. I should have left when they stated that a single origin is a filter coffee roast :-/ but I persisted for the little guy. Another issue was the lack of details and information on their coffees. There was no clear indication of MASL, process, varietals or even roast date. I had brought my aero press with me so I attempted a number of different grinds with my commandante and brew time but to no avail. Filter coffees highlight the quality of the roast and bean and unfortunately neither came through with a win. Maybe next time?
