I hadnt been back to this place since they re-opened some time ago. It was sunday 11:15am and we came into a restaurant that was a quarter full. The place looked a lot better then i remembered. New chair covers and a fresh lick of paint gave it a welcoming feel. The aircon was working nicely, which added to the pleasant feeling of being there. (temperature was expected to reach 38c)Once we were seated our waiter left to take an order from another table, without giving us menus. I should mention that Big Gun Yum Cha is no longer trolley operated. You now order dim sum from a menu.To cut a long story shorter, the service was very poor. They had two waiters working and the chef had to help attend the tables. It was now 11:30am, the restaurant is just under half full and other tables are looking for staff to order or get a menu. One waiter is taking a phone call and more customers are coming in. I can not fathom how they only have 2 waiters on. Even if someone was late it would still be a struggle for Sunday yum cha.The food came out in about 10minutes which was suprisingly quick, considering the lack of organisation at the front of house. The food was quite average all around. The prawn in the prawn dumpling weren’t as succulent as other other places- a bit chewy even. Although the xiao long bao meat was tasty, the pastry was too thick and lacked soup. The char siu in the rice noodle wraps was mediocre. Nothing was done well in my opinion. It’s going to be a while before i revisit Big Gun Yum Cha again. There are other many yum cha spots doing a better job for me to return any time soon.
It used to be very good two years ago both yum Cha and dinner. But the taste changed a lot since they changed the management two years ago so we have stopped coming here.
