Weekend Garden City stroll, after a long day dealing with a tantrum youngster, one was feeling peckish. With that in mind, we landed at Miki sushi. The well decorated take away shop specializes in Japanese sushi rolls on the go. After viewing the large selection, we ordered salmon avocado ($3.50) and California roll ($3.50).The salmon avocado was average in serving size and consist raw salmon, avocado and Japanese mayo all wrapped in short grain rice and Nori. The sushi roll tasted bland and old with the nori moist and chewy indicating pre-made for several hours. Short grain rice was cooked and seasoned well, with a fragrant rice vinegar scent. 2.5/5The California roll was well presented with crab stick inside out, shredded cucumber, mayo and a touch of fish roe. The roll tasted fresh with big crab stick flavours matched perfectly with the well-cooked sushi rice. 4/5Service wise was disappointing overall. The Chinese lady serving behind the counter sighed few times when we were selecting and maintained a blunt face throughout the process. The tables around the shop were poorly maintained (they are the only eatery around Target). Pieces of rice, dashes of soy sauce and plastic wrappings were scattered on and around each and every table. Two staff members were working at the time and one was playing on his phone the whole time. For an eatery serving raw ingredients, its cleanly unacceptable. 1/5Hint: Their Aburi sushi selections is 3/5 on average.
This sushi place is probably one of the nicest ones in Garden City. There are a delightful selection of sushi available and the prices are reasonable. The service is good and the employees are friendly. There are also a few tables available which is nice. This place is located in a secluded corner of the shopping centre which is more quiet.
