TL;DR: Don’t bother with here. A little birdy has told me that it is often busy, and that is usually a maxim for the best fish and chip places, but this might well be an anomaly to that statement. Just bland all the way through, and nothing else. This is the local fish and chippy for around this area, and just one of several options to eat within this shopping location. Nothing much about it really does stand out, maybe bar the convenience factor, and it ends up being really mediocre as opposed to anything else. And that is a darn shame when considering the value for money it has. It came to another one of them, that was a PPV event streaming on the WWE Netowrk. With the cool down from Wrestlemania season into the next season, the event they were showing was Backlash. As per usual, that was time to hit up the delivery service and getting some dinner for the night. Well, we have a double-banger of a doozy here (if you want to include the event, it makes for a triple – but that is something else). Whoa boy, don’t we have a big calamity of some customer service around here – and it is not the restaurant’s fault either. This was something so bad, that with Menulog I have officially given them the flick after something so unprofessional. With the food seeming to arrive a little later than the intended time, I was reasonable and gave them about 15 or so minutes before calling the restaurant. On their end, they were pleasant enough and managed to fulfill the order. The problem with all of this was, they never got the message sent through to them. This was in spite of their being confirmation on their website about the order, in spite of having it already paid for online, and in spite of receiving a text message with the expected E.T.A. sent through during the morning. Whether it was a clerical error, or just plain indolence, this was unacceptable for a trusted delivery service to do that. Not all of it is that bad afterwards, from when I did phone up and place the order, they were good enough to have it dropped off to my house so there was at least dinner. All of this, though, is a good reminder of why I adopted UberEats instead.Getting onto what this place serves, the general gist of it is good old fish and chips. So it is easily expected that they also serve a lot of the weird and wonderful snacks which often accompany a fish and chips shop – and that do they do. In addition to all them, it also serves several kinds of salad, a heap of different burgers, and it also has a sandwich bar. Albeit that it isn’t available by delivery services anymore, the drinks menu goes beyond the usual sodas, waters, and juices, and adds on a milkshake and bubble tea bar. That is something a bit different that is not often done, and can be advantageous for any kind of takeaway. For a bit more detail with the menu, different types of fish can be ordered as whole meals with a drink and fries, along with several dinner packs for one, and big family feasts. The chip corner spoils the customers for choice. One thing they definitely have right is the variety, and there is something to please practically every member of the family. To share with my house mate, the whole hog was sort of done here. What can be relied on in these instances is the platters, and I went for a platter for two. The platters all come with the same morsels just in different quantities. What you get each time is several pieces of fish, a heap of calamari rings, a couple of seafood bites and seafood sticks each, some sea scallops and prawn cutlets along with a generous sides of chips. That and some lemon and tartare sauce on the side. In addition to all of that, I also ordered some pineapple fritters, chicko roll, potato scallops, and deep-fried Mars bar. Here is the big pity, very little of it was actually enjoyable. The handful of additions gotten in conjunction with the platter turned out to be tastier and more memorable, and that doesn’t make for much of an impression. The prawns and scallops were able to somewhat survive it when peeled away from the batter, however the fish really suffered as a result with the texture being funny and not holding much form, as well as a poor taste and flavour. Worst though might have been the calamari. Once upon a time this might have been considered the norm, but with all sorts of places working wonders with squid it was one kind of throw back to old fish and chip places, where it would often be stringy and hard to take a good bite out of. As with the seafood bites and seafood sticks, regardless of how good the battering was or how good and hot the oil was, these morsels are ones I could either take or leave. With the pineapple fritters, and the deep-fried Mars bars, both of these were decent enough. At least the pieces of pineapple were fresh and solid, plus were juicy, and the Mars bars is hard to really do wrong – though in saying that a truly well done one would be melting upon being bitten instead of just battered with a slightly soft center. The Chiko was alright as far as it can go, and the potato scallops were also another saving grace – the potato was salted well, and the thin cut helped cook them somewhat well. As for the fries, forget them since most of it went to the dog. To be honest, the brunt of it was not bad enough to be absolutely horrible. The flesh part of most of the seafood was good enough usually (save for the calamari, which reminded me of old days…), yet it was all let down by a weak and stodgy batter that was possibly the result of oil that was either too hot or too old. Even nowadays, fish and chips is often money so care and attention to detail with these aspects certainly does wonders to the business. Simply put, it was slim scratchings to find anything half good here. With apologies about the ranting about what went wrong, as it is always the case even when I am not that fond of somewhere I do not give any ill-will at any time. I won’t say that it is in one of the best positions around town, though there is a good amount of competition around so they might want to lift their game up a little bit. Especially within a decent radius from here, some places to an admirable job of being fine, in addition to the game truly being lifted to something else with taste and quality. Whether the same kind of grub, or something different, with lots of other choices around it is high time for some improvements.
Sweet potato fries were not at all bad, but I like them well cooked & crunchy, reading below reviews some do not it seems. Each to their own. This place is always busy when we go there so that must say something. They also have good priced meal deals for around $10 with a drink included so that may be why
Both fish and sweet potato fries were slightly overcooked. Snapper not very fresh unfortunately in comparison to other fish shops in the area.
Just a joke. Cant cook fish to save their lives..always overcooked and overpriced
Chicken or fish?. Small, overcooked portion of calamari and chips. Tasted like chicken or possibly dirty frying oil. service wasn’t great either.
Calamari and Chips. Rubbery calamari
