Always wanted to try their almond croissant which looks so delicious. I have a strong sweet tooth, i simply cannot live with out chocolate or sweet dried fruit for a single day. But this croissant to me is over the edge sweet. The pastry is good, you can tell they use a good amount of butter. But oh it is just too sweet, i can feel my sugar blood level just shot up! I only managed to finish half of it, and leave the rest frozen. Then the second day I took it out and grab another bite(i like to eat frozen pastry, yep, sounds weird.) you know how things become even sweeter when it is cold compare to when it is hot. Yep, extremely sweet. I managed to eat them all anyway, as I said, i can eat a lot of sweet things. But I don’t think I will get another one in the future:(
I am a sucker for anything sweet & this shop does not disappoint. The flaked almond slices with honey & caramel were delicious. They have a great range of celebration cakes & the coffee was good too
We’ve been looking for a place in Brisbane to get good, freshly made cakes, that are neither run-of-the-mill, nor over the top (peanut-butter-snickers-salted-caramel everything) and this looked like it might be the place. The shop looked great, so did the stuff in the cabinet, the staff were friendly. It stocks Danny’s sourdough, which is great and we had a couple of treats from the counter which were very nice. We bought a couple of meat pies, they weren’t bad, the pastry was good, but they were under-seasoned. But most disappointing of all was the chocolate sour cream cake. It looked and sounded fantastic – but unfortunately, the mixture had been terribly overworked, the texture of the cake was chewy, in fact, downright rubbery – and the white chocolate topping was far too sickly sweet. I am willing to go back and give Cake and Bake another go because it seems to hold a lot of promise – the only reason I take the trouble to write this review is because I genuinely want to give some constructive feedback.
$18 later with a quiche lorraine full of soggy onions and a small chocolate cake that my young daughters could of made – I’m sorry I was not impressed. I wanted to be but service was distracted and nothing in the display really caught my eye.I bought the quiche as I was starving but would rather go spend less for my favourite at Swiss Deli.
FRIDAY MORNING RITUAL, this has become our Friday morning ritual… Every Friday we treat ourselves to something sweet and one of the best coffees I’ve come across in West End! The staff are always so friendly and welcoming! 5 Stars
Had a red velvet cup cake from here and it’s not really a red velvet cup cake. Just butter cake with red colouring. Nothing impress at all. Just old style slices. U can buy from any where. And also had a almond Crossiant. Was good. But didn’t expect salty chocolate inside. It just totally ruin the crossiant.
What a delightful addition to the area. Montague Rd is looking up with this and the Stores! We enjoyed a wonderful quiche and have purchased some preserves that we are yet to try.
