This BP Roadhouse is a regular stop for me as I make my way down the Gold Coast. A convenient place for a quick coffee, sandwich, pastry or donut. The quality of their products is consistent and prices reasonable. The single shot large Cappuccino ($5.00) was piping hot, strong and flavoursome. Drink up!
After the very bad experience from the food next door to the Wild Bean Caf, I moved to have my usual take away cup of coffee from this spot. The contrast in production between the two cafes in the same food court made me happy very much with the Wild Bean Cafe, at least, their food and drinks are consistent in quality…
‘Cup of coffee old bean?’ ‘Yeah please. Wild, man…’ So, Wild Bean cafe. The one that will infuriate coffee puritans with its addition of robusta alongside arabica beans, but will delight others with the element of ‘shade and lift’ that the robusta beans add. While they will never, on their own, lift your humble instant coffee to levels of in home greatness, mixed with the proper arabica bean, its really quite something if you ask me.So, taking that on board and ruining everything further for the coffee puritans, I chuck in a shot of white chocolate and make it a mocha. Wild Bean offer an extensive range of sizes (4 or 5 in total) and the price is very good as a result. It really was – although sweet – not made wildly sweet, and the coffee flavour was ‘cooking on gas’.I always find service here very good, they don’t take forever but take enough time to make you a good brew and the range of food options – pies, sandwiches, and of course those world famous Krispy Creme Doughnuts – make this always a pleasant experience. So, in closing, while some might say its merely cost cutting with the robusta, and the puritans having more than a fair point that ‘it should only be arabica beans’, the truth is that many are going to love this unexpected bean combination. I happen to be in that particular boat – thumbs up! *Photos to come later
