Value for money pies, and a great variety of sweet and savoury pies. Counter staff are friendly, and service is swift. Will return whenever Im in the area just for nostalgias sake. Will recommend! Good for tourists too.
This is my third or fourth time here now so i thought I’d write about it…Yatala Pies is kind of a tourist attraction. As I understand it, they have been around as a family business for quite a long time. Ambience: everytime I come here the place is quite full. Today it was a mix of suits, families and bicycle riders. Decor: a little tired. Looks like something from a suburban diner. Menu: pies. Lots of different pies. Some other sweet pastries were also available but I was too hungry for pie to take note of them. Service: counter orders and pickup. The customer lineup (for ordering) area is not well orginaised, which added to the chaos. Food: had the steak pie. It was quite large; and, unlike my last visit here, was piping hot. The pastry on top was light and flaky although the pie base was twice as thick as it needed to be. The filling was mince with a light gravy. My dining companion received one small piece of stewed beef in his steak pie; however, I received none. Verdict: good sized pie that was adequately heated. Value for money was average. Might come again if only to take friends that are not from Brisbane (tourist excursion).
Terrible customer service at Yatala Pies.Tonight I went to Yatala Pies to buy dinner for my family. For the second time in a row I was not given my entire order. Admittedly, I should have checked before I left the store but I had a sleeping child to carry and I trusted the employee to get my order correct; although he didnt write anything down, just nodded and smiled. When I arrived home, half an hour away, I noticed I was missing a family apple pie. I called Yatala Pies and spoke to a male employee who passed me onto the manager Susie. Susie added up my order and stated that I hadnt been charged for the apple pie, therefore, I had nothing to worry about. I said that wasnt the case, it was inconvenient as I dont live close enough to go back and fix up their mistake. Susie was incredibly rude and unprofessional. She then hung up on me. I called back and spoke to Susie again. She was unapologetic stating that they have thousands of customers a day and cant always get it right. I told her that I thought it was more than a coincidence that twice in a row they had forgot an item in my order. I asked Susie what her surname was, to which she replied none of your business! Again Susie hung up on me, leaving the issue unresolved. After this phone call, one of my family members realised that there were no peas on his order of a plain pie with peas.Very disappointing Yatala Pies, very disappointing!
