Slow service and not even busy. Inattentive staff. Not a lot on the menu. Food was luke warm, they have heat lamps at the kitchen but not turned on . Suspect my schnitzel was cooked in the deep fryer from frozen. Most of it went back to the kitchen to the dumpster where it belonged. On the upside the wedges were good but a man does not live on wedges alone.

When the only vegetarian option on the menu is a pumpkin gnocchi, so you order that and you get 12 pieces for $27, whilst your friends all get massive schnitzels or burgers with mountains of fries, for $20 (not a special or anything), it makes you think, is this place trying to be a pub or a hatted restaurant? I was a little shocked understandably, and so they gave me a free small green salad, but really? I don’t understand how a place can change the menu so much and still have so many issues………..?Hot tip for this place: Figure out your target market

Went here for a lunch fix a week ago with a friend. Interior definitely makes it feel ‘high end’ so we thought we were in for a treat! We ordered the zucchini flowers to share for entree and both got the spiced, battered flathead with quinoa and pumpkin salad. Our mains came out before the entre (when asked whether we’d like them entre first we said yes) so not sure what the mix-up was there. The fish was cooked beautifully and tartare was also delicious but the salad was a miss- 0 dressing, 2 pieces of pumpkin and 3 iceberg lettuce leaves (one of which hadn’t been washed and had dirt on it). Flowers were lovely, filled with goats curd. It’s great that Gouger St has some non-Asian lunch break stops and although I didnt have the best experience I’m tempted to give Glasshouse a second shot sometime soon.

Very relaxed atmosphere the decor is quite trendy and open, though we got the vibe that they wanted us to eat and leave quickly! The service was nice but felt forced and we were not able to try dessert as they shut the kitchen before we could order though the menu suggests to leave room for it.The food even though not an extensive menu was SenSationaL! The halumi fingers, 6hour slow cooked lamb (Delicious) and the special of the day Mushroom Burger really great dishes!

The Glasshouse Hotel is big and fancy looking from the outside (situated on Gouger Street near the courts) and a little sparkly on the inside. It was a really strange place! When we sat down, it actually felt like it was an upper class pub – that wasn’t in a pub ‘building’ and had nice ornaments. It looked like we should have table service, but we ordered at the bar (totally fine, just confusing!). I got a rare steak & my partner bought the half duck cooked two ways with a side of roast carrots. It didn’t really bother me because we were just chatting & having a good time, but our dinner did seem to take a long time to come out & our side of roast carrot never came. We didn’t mind as our mains filled us up – so we didn’t follow them up – but we definitely took them off the bill at the end & the waiter was apologetic. The steak was DELICIOUS (rare) with roasted onion & braised mushrooms. However the bernaise sauce didn’t quite fit with the onion. I really enjoyed the meal & my partner seemed to enjoy his! It seems to be a jazzed up pub, but I enjoyed my food!

Situated in the old Marquis wine bar location is the Glasshouse Hotel, a sort of upmarket bar that caters to the small claims lawyer or the red nosed financial adviser who often frequent these parts of Adelaide CBD. It isn’t all bad though, they are trying to fill an area of the bar market and for the most part they do it sort of well. The food is not bad, the ambiance is bar like and they try to cater for a wide spectrum of the public. Would it be your local? Probably not. Its just too big, too wide, too open. It isn’t homely like a good ‘hotel’ should be.As for the food it was good. It caters for the lunch time half hour or the sit down, wine and dine. I had the half duck cooked two ways with pear and onion. It was quite nice. What can I say, I love duck and it was cooked pretty good. My companion had the rib eye steak, rare. By all accounts they seemed too like it. They didn’t rave about it but there was also no complaints. Maybe at $40 it was a bit steep for the grade of beef it seemed to be but it was passable. Unfortunately though we did at a side of $9 heirloom carrots which never showed but luckily we were already thinking something sweet and just dismissed it. The staff all seemed a little confused and not as ‘upmarket’ as you would expect for the vibe the place gives off but they also didn’t spit in hour faces so that was nice.
