Sadly our high coffee experience left us underwhelmed.. the staff were extremely unorganised, we had no waiter throughout our high coffee, we had to ask different staff members who were passing by our table for service … such as our well….high coffee… we then had to ask for our coffee (which was part of the whole ‘high coffee’ experience) in which I believe a senior staff woman told a junior staff member to just give us the stuff they had sitting in the jugs. We had to explain like idiots and show on our phones the menu that explained Vittorias ‘coffee of your choice’… the food was just okay, the savoury selections weren’t anything flash, not sure if they had ran out of the beef & burgundy pies but I’m pretty sure that is not what we received…the sweets were okay, nothing coffee inspired as we had thought, sweets you would find in a standard cafe. Best part was the espresso martini, delicious! Such a bizarre, unorganised, weird and disappointing experience…

Had breakfast a couple of times at this restaurant earlier this month. Normal cookie cutter all day dining restaurants that are about but with two differences. One, they had a nice sunny set of tables overlooking a balcony/patio that makes it rather pleasant. And two, they had an Indian curry in the breakfast menu which was rather surprising. Unsure about how to eat it (with bread perhaps?) but a pleasant surprise nonetheless. Overall good breakfast.

Woah this place has definitely gone downhill. I’ve been here probably 6 times over the past four years, because they’re well known for having great chefs who make good use of local South Australian ingredients in their meals. However my meal with them on the weekend just past leaves little to be desired. Ordered a Sri Lankan chicken curry with samosa, steamed basmati rice, paratha bread, pappadums with fresh tomato and coconut salsa, which costs $32. The chicken was cold, with not enough sauce. The bread was charcoal burnt, which for most is considered quite unhealthy. The rice was hard and not moist. The only half decent thing on the plate was the papadums. We shared an artisan bakery sourdough bread with native spiced dukkah and Dairymans cottage hand churned butter for $8. Came cut in three pieces, all of varying sizes so very difficult to portion between two people. Was overly touch to chew, which means you just get crumbs all over the table. The best dish of the night was the heirloom beetroot salad with Persian fetta and frisee, for $10, as a side. Should have asked for this to be doubled in size and served as a main instead. Funnily enough it even comes up on their booking engine (I snooped when paying the bill) that I’m a repeat customer. If I was in the restaurant business, although I know it would be important to wow first timers, it’s also important to maintain your regular clientele. The service was good, and always has been five star. They were happy to split the bill at the end, and they didn’t charge us the credit card surcharge. We even used to the Entertainment Book, where the cheaper main is free when an equal prices or more expensive main is purchased. You can also join up (at a few) with the IHG Dining Rewards program which will give you a $50 voucher to use on a one off basis, and 25% on an ongoing basis, at most restaurants associated with IHG Group hotels. Because of the poor quality of this meal, I won’t be in a rush to come here again.

I loved this place when it was buffet dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. Then it was reduced to only Saturday nights. About $80-$90 per head but the food was high quality. It is now a la carte. Food is still good quality and the desserts have stepped up. The date brownie was delicious, the native ice cream trilogy was different tasting but nice.my favourite was the carrot cake and mini lemon meringues. The main meals were tasty and presented well. Kids menu, I would suggest serving shoestring fries instead of really thick almost wedges style fries as most kids find it too much. Will always keep going back it never disappoints.

Saturday 17/06/12. Only the Maitre De and the wine saved this experience the seafood was small in size with Moreton Bay Bugs the only exception (undercooked), blue crabs were inedible (frozen way too long), mussels were teeny weeny (I’ve seen bigger diamonds), king crab claws old and tasteless (shell had goone too soft to crack). At least half of the advertised menu was missing. Saved by dessert which we would not normally eat but had to experience due to the waiting staff that just wanted to pack everything up and go home by 10.00pm on a Saturday night even though they made our reservation for 8.30pm. We were told the hot buffet would remain but we needed to hurry up on the cold buffet which would be removed at 10.00pm both buffets were removed by 10.00pm. Only the desserts remained after an audible discression between the Maitre De and a waitress. Not the best dining experience especially not at $85.00 per head.

A quality experience. It’s no disrespect to the Riverside to say it duplicates what can be experienced within any top-quality hotel anywhere in the world. It’s inside the Intercontinental, the most stylish of Adelaide’s hotels, with good views. The service (with personal greetings from the manager) is discreet, well-trained, speedy & eager to please; the ambience top quality; the table settings everything one might expect. Naturally all this comes at a price – a high price. This is the kind of place where business people go who, by and large, aren’t settling the bill themselves. Our party of 4 went on two vouchers and it was indubitably excellent value: $50 each for three courses from anywhere on the standard menu, sparkling wine to start all round and two other bottles of good red. Definitely no ‘special’ menu which can mar some of these schemes. The food was as you might expect: original, served with style and a flourish on big plates. Everyone was happy with their choices. The starter tapas I had were clever little items, all tasty. The Moroccan lamb was judged excellent. My mixed grill was competent but nothing startling: a very little bit of steak, two little lamb chops, bits of sausage. As with the other dishes, it was nearly all protein. Anything else, including vegetables were extra, which I find annoying in places like this. Vegetables are cheap: why should one pay extra for half a dozen green beans? So: all very nicely done but small serves – there was plenty of room for dessert. The size of my grill serve would have provoked discontent in a front bar (where it could have been just as good and a third of the price.) . In all, a pleasant evening in a luxurious setting with appetising food – nice to sample, but way out of my price bracket for other than very special occasions.Postscript: The restaurant had another voucher offer (the same deal as before) so we went again. We couldn’t get the first choice of night probably because they only allow a certain number of voucher diners, which is fair enough. The same excellent value with a free choice from the same menu. I noted that they now offered a side dish with some of the mains, so perhaps someone has been reading these reviews.
