Yummy Chinese food in the midst of Chinatown. Star house is definitely my favourite Chinese restaurant on Gouger st for dinner … Xo fried rice and eggplant hotpot is my two go to dishes
I walked in after looking around the other restaurants and chose this one as it was busy.My order was simple, Peking duck and noodles with the left over duck and some jasmine tea.As I sat looking at the menu a saw the reviews and became concerned. My waiter was very good and kind, my tea came out and it was fresh, some ants or bugs on the table got squashed. The duck was ok but not warm, the cucumber slices must have been in the Friedrich for weeks as they were dry, the shallots were dead and hard and the. To top it all, the wrappers were dry and broke everytime I wrapped a piece of duck (see my pics). The noodle and duck that came out were very nice and had that char Smokey flavour. Not my best experience but certainly my last visit there.
Friendly and quick service, food was not bad, and we even got some complementary dessert. Hope you like Canto songs though, because it’s always on!
Came here with my family for dinner. What I liked is the fact the food all came out at the same time. This never happens normally at a Chinese restaurant. Favorite order was the peaking ribs and lotus seafood tofu steamed dish. It was massive.
Possibly the worst meal me and my fellow guests have ever had and also the rudest unprofessional staff I’ve come across in over 40years of frequenting restaurants..raw fatty inedible food backed up with an unfriendly staff attitude. I could go on and on but suffice to day just don’t go. There are far better places in Gouger st so don’t waste you hard earned money on this place..Jim Janet and others
Booked for a Sunday 10:30am Yum Cha seating and was relatively happy with this visit. The service was good, the food was good with the exclusion of a couple of dishes. The chicken feet and the tendons were a tad bit undercooked. Flavours were there but they weren’t as soft as they should be. Other than that, everything else was spot on. Oh and the Portuguese tarts – YUM!! Get them.
Really nice chinese restaurant to go with a large group. We ordered 5-6 dishes including the usual staples : fried rice, mapo tofu and sweet and sour chicken. Everything was nice, service is efficient. The wine is dear though at $40 a bottle.
