For a late lunch, we decided to indulge in some Yum Cha. It wasnt disappointing, nor was it inspiring. We ordered a few small plates including the ox tripe, crystal shrimp dumplings, pork dim sims, prawn rice roll and durian pastry. The service was ok, and the food was what youd typically expect from a Chinese restaurant.
Four of us went here for Yum Cha on Mother’s Day. It’s probably worth noting that because the place was very busy and there were quite a few large family groups in, so our experience might not be typical.We had booked for a 2:00 sitting and after a short wait outside in a queue we were called in, seated and offered tea.The food was very good. The things we had were all delicious, fresh and beautifully prepared and presented.The difficulty was actually getting it on the table.With waiters run off their feet we had trouble catching someone’s eye so we could get a drinks order done. And somehow we seemed to be sitting in the spot at the end of the trail for the food trolleys. There was a long period where we sat and watched food arrive at other tables.Or because there were large groups on either side of us we would see something approaching only to have the large group take four plates of it and that was that.And when someone did come to our table we were obviously getting what was left. We were offered the tripe, the chickens feet and the jellyfish salad several times.As I say. The food we had was outstanding, And perhaps on a different day, seated elsewhere in the room it would have been a different experience.As it was we sat for an hour and a half, spent $100 and when we left two of our party wandered round to Breadtop in Grote St because they were still hungry.

Turned up – it was packed and they had no record of our booking, then tried to con us into sitting the donkey table basically in the middle of the front door. Had my elderly mother-in-law with me. Awful experience and terrible service. I want to go with one of the people who gave it 5/5.
