Very disappointed, not a true representation of German food…Their were 5 of us…My meal was pork knuckle.tasted terrible .did not enjoy the sauerkraut, the potato cakes were sloppy tasted more like an egg omelette with a tiny bit of potato..I liked the red cabbage, that was all…waste of $32. Others in the group had roulanden. Very dry. The only meal that looked ok was the chicken on salad. Very disappointed. Will not be returning.
You would think a place that’s serves a dish, which is an icon of the culture it represents, would get it right wouldn’t you. Not so at the German club. Any self respecting German club should be able to produce a tasty Weiner Schnitzel. Take one juicy pork cutlet, season well, coat in quality bread crumbs, and fry in oil and butter. Serve with sauted potatoes, a tasty salad and you have a traditional German schnitzel. Not at the German club, the schnitzel was bland and chewy, they would not serve with sauted potatoes, even though on the menu, and charge an extra $4 for chips which arrived stone cold. Then charge an extra $1.50 for 20 mls of gravy. Drop a small bowl on the plate with a couple of spoons of lettuce and you have a $27.50 crappy schnitzel. There a better German meals elsewhere in Adelaide, give this one a miss.
Ditched the vegetarian member of the family and headed to The German Club for dinner. Service was fantastic and friendly, atmosphere was great and the food was excellent! My son had been before and told me the schnitzel was the size of his head…I thought he was exaggerating so I ordered a side of chips-big mistake, when the food came, I realised he wasn’t joking. We all opted for the Jaeger schnitzel- full of flavour ,tender and juicy meat, crumbs were not oily and the side serves of mashed potatoes and salad were of a very generous size. I wanted to try the desserts but there was no room left…have to go back!
