We went to Sammy’s on the Marina for dinner last night for a birthday celebration, and received incredibly bad service and very average, boringfood. The waitress who served us was friendly, but incompetent. The only good thing I can say about Sammy’s is that the view was gorgeous. We have been to Sammy’s before and it has been wonderful and memorable, which makes this experience all the more disappointing. This is why:Firstly we ordered drinks and wine to start, however the wine didn’t come out until our main meals as the waitress forgot to put in the order. We weren’t offered any more wine/drinks throughout the evening.Secondly, weordered a Salt & Pepper Calamari as a main (it is offered as both entre and main), however when it was brought out with the other main meals it was an entre size. Instead of taking it away the waitress said she would just bring out another entre, as it was basically the same thing (we declined as that was aweird suggestion – why didn’t she just go back to the kitchen and replace it with a main?). To offset this the waitress took two drinks off the final bill.Next once we had finished our mains (pretty average- especially for $38+ per meal), our plates weren’t cleared for ages and we were not offered dessert or more wine until over an hour after we had finished (by then the time had passed where we felt like dessert) despite trying to catch the eye of the waitress (she was busy rearranging menus on the counter). We were ignored pretty much from when the mains came out onwards. When we pointed this out at the enda new waitresstook the total drinks off the final bill. While it was an okay gesture to take the drinks off the final price, it was not really the point as you don’t come to Sammy’s for a cheap meal or a discount. Wewent there for a lovely dining experience for a special occasion, and would have preferred timely basic customer serviceand better food. For anyone looking fora better diningexperience go to a local fish and chip shop andsit on the beach -the servicewillprobably be competent, the food quality will be the same, plus you will get a nice view.
Very disappointed. Went for mothers 90th birthday luch celebration. She loves seafood. Was told that the seafood platter was all fresh. Challenged the waiter that in August crayfish would be frozen but denied by the waiter. Being from a crayfishing village my partner and I new this was not correct. The family agreed to pay over $600 for 6 people for the platter but clearly the crayfish was not only frozen but also served burnt! Having just finished a dinner of fresh caught and cooked crayfish at home I felt the need to let Sammy’s know that the platter they served for my mother’s 90th birthday celbration luncheon was well below par and definitely not worth the money paid. Very very disapointing. However have made it to mum by since giving her fresh crayfish by us.
Sammy’s on the Marina offers stunning views of the sea but that’s where it ends. The food is overpriced for what you get and the service is very, very average. The staff need better training. One of us ordered a glass of wine and got charged for a bottle and the staff came up and asked to take our plates whilst we were still eating. Unfortunately we won’t be going back. EN
Dined here for the first time and had a seafood platter. Quite pricey for what it was. Seafood bland with little variation in what was on the platter.
My first time to Sammys at Glenelg with a party of 5 ladies.Well the location is great no complaints there – we were met by a lovely waitress who seated us. After looking thru the menu we decided on an Aussie platter and started with a bottle of champers – 1 of 2.There wasn’t a long wait before these platters arrived and were placed on towers keeping them up and off the table (great idea). Bubbles poured we started on our feast and a feast it was. It was delicious seafood bursting out every where!! Nothing was over cooked and cold selection fresh. It was the best seafood I’ve had in Adelaide I thoroughly enjoyed my meal -the bubbles were constantly topped up – staff young and friendly girls. It was a great dining experience well worth the price. Thank you!!!
I haven’t been here for a few years, it is such a great location. I ordered crispy skin salmon and it was delicious. Looking forward to coming back next time i am in town
Absolutely appalling. ServiceIs terrible. No one knows what’s going on. Waited 50mins for our first Drinks and that was just the beginning of it. We were out for a special occasion which was completely ruined. Worst dining experience ever. Everyone that was on our table of ten will never return.
