I have been Japan 3 times before. All the sushi here are tasted good. The sashimi is fresh. I dont know why people said the tuna tataki is raw as a negative comment . Come on, tuna tataki is raw!Have to wait for the food but it deserved. All the sushi and roll are fresh made. The teriyaki chicken bento is excellent! We ordered the big platter, it looks normal but the taste is excellent.

We ate here tonight, I was craving Mexican but the majority ruled and we went for Japanese , the vibe was right, the food was not amazing and the staff were less than happy we were there. We got the miso which was cold and not enjoyed by the bigger dude. It should be served hot to touch! We… also got the sushi banquet and the karaage chicken. Have to say for $78 the platter was not exciting and had very little variation for a Japanese restaurant on Saturday night down at the bay, warm, westernised sushi, mushy sashimi and we felt like we insulted Wasai by even being there. Hate to negatively review, but I was not satisfied. I understand the rating now. Now to order pizza because I’m hungry and just want some happy food after this bad experience.

I made the mistake of not looking at the review before going in there, but I regret it. Even though the place looks nice and the ambiance is quiet and clean, the food disappoints from the start. We tried the tuna tataki as entree and it was totally raw, not seared as it’s supposed to be and it tasted not fresh. Then we order maybe 4 different rolls of Sushi and they were all very poor in flavour. They looked good, but they were tasting only like mayonnaise. We order one with tuna and one with Salmon, and two more with prawn that left us without any desire to go back. This place has everything to be a great restaurant, the premises, location and environment are good, the service was friendly but not good enough to repeat that food. They should get different chef(s), I think the food was expensive even expensive for the taste they provide.

Nice enough service and setting, but the food is strictly amateur. Neither deep enough in flavor nor skillfully prepared enough to qualify as Japanese restaurant. I have a hunch its Chinese run.

Nice Japanese atmosphere, fresh, clean, large restaurant. Friday night was reasonably busy (but not full) and as such it took a while for each dish to come out. Food was nicely presented and generally tasty. My lemon lime & bitters was quite watery. Would return at a quite time. Returned a year later on a Monday night, much quieter and quicker service. Food was very nice. Enjoyed the beef tataki.

Ladies Lunch group 27th February. This year were are trying international cuisine Japanese was the first choice. Finding venues on a Saturday was difficult but the Crane was open. All discussions with booking the venue was via messenger and responses were in a timely manner so no complaints there.I had a group of 10 people who wanted teppanyaki at one BBQ plate. ..no problemsI picked the set menu chicken & beef $59 pp also included was soup, fried rice, salad, and rice wine. Good valueI also asked about the BYO option ($10 corkage) as their wine list is very small .,..unknown names and pricey…….no problem.example for me $9 champers + $10 =$19 cheaper than their bottles.Well………. what a great time we had!!!!! Food delicious and plenty of it! Fantastic fun watching it being cooked. Our wines were served as needed. When lunch was over we asked to be moved upstairs away from BBQ area for more drinks and chatting …no problem Josh who was looking after us was just great ….nothing was too hard and he was friendly and funny. He made the day for us. My 1st time at teppanyaki was great fun and all the ladies enjoyed themselves Go if you want a new experience. ……

I found a dead, boiled fly in my cup of green tea, which ended up in between my lips at the last few sips. I was mortified. I ran straight to the toilet and my fiance followed me to see if i was okay. We returned to collect our goods only to find that they had cleared the table. Quite underhanded?I had questioned the strange taste, smell and texture of the tea from the start, but assumed it was just Chinese tea.The staff could not appreciate the seriousness of what had happened. I was distraught and ill for the rest of the day. All that the staff could say was they will make sure the cups are clean next time!In the end they did us a favor and waived the green tea and so only made us pay for the meal, which we did not even get to finish. Super poor experience & serious hygiene concerns ! !!It’s a shame as the food was good, however we certainly will not be returning. The staff showed no care.
