Have been going to Hectors regularly for coffee and sometimes lunch. The food is generally good but pricey. The service however can be very variable and one feels that the coffee only customer is not so welcome. On our last visit when we queried the excessive (and illegal) charge for using pay- wave for under $10 we were promptly told to leave and consider ourselves banned. Since then we have discovered a much friendlier place just up from the wharf . The Wharf Barrel Shed wine bar provides tasty toasted sandwiches for $8 and a great atmosphere. A very welcome addition to the Goolwa cafe scene.
This is a really nice cafe in goolwa. I’d been here for getting a cockles but we ended up here because the place are just unique. The cafe divided into two section, the deck and indoor area. The decoration is about beach, fishing and ocean. I felt like brought back to the seventy’s or eighty’s. We ordered a Salt and Pepper Squid..served with chips and garden salad and some dipping. I do like the salad dressing, sweet and tasty. And Bruschetta with Smoke Salmon, horseradish cream, spanish onion and capers. The food alone are alright. Service is good. But I just loved the place, cozy. If this place is around the corner of my house I will visit every week or everyday just to have a coffee.
Service was friendly and great, food okay. It would have been better if the food had been cooked in coconut oil instead of toxic cottonseed oil. Restaurants should stop using cheap, disease inducing oils like cottonseed and canola. Food is meant to be nutritious, not toxic. Please research cottonseed oil health hazards and start thinking of the long-term health and well-being of your patrons.  You will be rewarded with a long list of dedicated and satisfied customers.  Thank you.
Now this review is about Hector’s high tea. I don’t know about you but I get excited at the prospect of eating ribbon sandwiches and tiny cakes presented to me on a tiered platter. When I heard that a local Goolwa eatery was hosting a high tea every last Sunday of the month, I booked a table for two. I wasn’t sure at that stage who was coming with me but I knew I was goingI had roped my mum into coming with me, ok there wasn’t much resistance. It was divine, I couldn’t eat lunch due to my excitement. The table looked out onto the River Murray and we were surrounded by those who also wanted to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon eating little cakes, sipping champagne and eating ribbon sandwiches. Couples, groups of ladies, and groups of friends, yes including males, all were enjoying high tea. I’m not going to review everything I ate, there was a lot and it was all fantastic.Want more to read the high tea menu? Then head over to my blog. Website below.
Food was ok but very expensive. I imagine it was Australia Day so probably a surcharge but quite exorbitant . Nice location and atmosphere but wouldn’t go back.
