Average over priced schnitzels. The beef schnitzels are very tough and chewey. The gravies could do with so much more improvement. Shame about the food but staff are really lovely. Also another thing to add. The chefs are first year apprentice and are left alone most nights!!

I had my daughter’s birthday dinner at the Cove Tavern less than 2 weeks ago and I am still raving on about my experience as so are the table of diners that were there that night.I should explain that I eat here about every 8 weeks on average; more if I didn’t have a mortgage and bringing up children along the way.OK What do you get? Friendly staff that are more than happy to ensure your night and needs are attended to. For drinks, I always go to the bar; just a few steps away and normally come back with a few extra drinks for the table.Now for the food. I could not find one fault with my Beef and Reef. May I say that I am one very fussy person that normally has to send her steak back as the chief at other places occasionally does not understand medium-rare. It is not that hard but the wonderful chief amazed me yet again and delivered the best steak. My knife glided through the steak and melted in my mouth. I could go on about the seafood, but all I will say is that I now know the secret to his wonderful calamari.For the rest of the table they were in heaven. My sister was absolutely in awe that finally a nine inch pizza overflowed a dinner sized plate and her reaction to the taste experience eating her pizza was incredible. Fine dining is normally her scene yet the look of satisfaction and the words of how excellent it was are still ingrained in me. The table that night had a variety of foods from schnitzel to steak, to fish, fisherman’s feast and the list goes on. Would I re-visit? I am back there this weekend. Thank you all at the Cove Tavern for a brilliant and memorable night.
We have not been to the cove for 12 months as previously the food has been very average. 11/4/15 we had dinner. Penne gambrel & mixed grill. Both were fantastic, good size servings and the staff were polite & efficient. A big turn around by the management I guess. Well done
Just awful. Every one at the table had a very poor meal mine was the worst meal i had for quite some time i ate there a couple of years ago and it was okay nothing special the salad bar looked like a pig troth it was horrible .
Disappointing. Although the food was tasty, well presented and good value for money, the service was appalling. We booked for 7.30, upon arrival we were asked to take a seat at the bar as our table wasn’t ready. I asked if a cocktail would be a possibility and was somewhat scoffed at! We ordered some simple drinks. We waited patiently and after 15 minutes I caught the eye of the staff member rushing past who had directed us to wait and she smiled seemingly in acknowledgement. I was sure she’d see to us soon. After 35 minutes I actively sought her out again and we were seated at a table that had been vacant the whole time. There was no apology or explanation. We ordered a second round of drinks and then our meal. Our drinks never arrived. When we asked for the bill it included the drinks we had not received. Obviously we refused to pay for them. Frustrating that although the food was good the care factor was zero. I will settle for basic food and be very satisfied if I feel respected and valued as a customer. It doesn’t matter how good the food is, I won’t go back if I’m not treated well. Sorry Chef, your great food is not really shining because of poor service!
Great improvement had the scotch fillet which was the best I have had here wife had the beef ribs which were tasty, tender and huge new chef is doing well
Good pub grub. Doesn’t try to be sophisticated and doesn’t need to. The Cove is a local family friendly place and caters well for it’s target clientele.
