I love quality bread and delicious pastries and Nettle & Knead delivers just that. However, $10+ for a tin loaf is excessive!!! Im used to the same excellent quality for $6-8 a loaf – never double digits. Great if you want to pay too much, but, on principle, I will think twice about returning.
Happened on this place as I was on a morning walk and decided to stop in as the crowds at the place must mean it’s excellent and I was not disappointed. As it was early and I had plenty of time while waiting for my son to finish his morning sport, I decided to eat in with my daughter. I had the custard slice…and really, if you eat nothing else, eat this! My daughter had the vegetarian pastie and she declared it the best she has eaten. I decided to purchase the chicken pie, 2 pork and fennel sausage rolls, a vegan pie, a loaf of ciabatta and of course, another custard slice to take home for lunch. The pastry on the pies and sausage rolls was light and flaky, the fillings were very tasty and the crust on the ciabatta mmmmmmmmmmm. Will definitely go back for more!
Found out about nettle and knead from following fromthewild on Instagram. She makes amazing gf and vegan desserts and nettle and knead now stocks them. Nettle and knead is so cute, cozy and charming. A mix match of cute furniture, including couches. As soon as I entered I was overwhelmed by the pastry choices both sweet and savory. One bench was covered in an array of muffins and pastries that my mouth watered. In addition to the pies and sausage rolls there are frittatas and so forth. I settled on the pork and fennel sausage roll, a soy chai and of course the fromthewild peanut butter and caramel cake. The plate that the sausage roll was served on was really cute but I did wish they had a homemade relish or something other than tomato sauce to serve with it. Everything was really tasty, especially the cake. It was really busy when I went, locals, tradies and people on work lunch break. The service was friendly and fast. I look forward to going back to try some of they other pastries, the muffins looked delicious. Spread the word people, this place is a must.
Popular neighbourhood coffee and lunch spot. A step up from most bakeries. Good range of interesting breads with Fig and Walnut a firm favourite. Mostly organic. The well chosen small range of pies and pastries are also excellent.Previously was Wild Loaf and still has many of the same breads as the bakery in the Central Market
